About me
Hello! I am Mr. Coon. I have been at Chesaning High School since 2001. Before that, I was at Powers Catholic High School in Flint, MI.
I have taught almost all of the science classes here at Chesaning. Physics, AP CSP, and Forensics are my concentrations this year, but I have done AP Bio, Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, Robotics, Coding and Earth Science.
I am the lead mentor for the Robotics Club here and I have also coached football here and until this year, I coached at Grand Blanc. I have also done robotics here for the past 10 years.
As far as coaching, I also coached football and baseball at Powers. When I came to Chesaning, I coached baseball for a few years but it was too much away time from dad for my son Adam and I stepped away. I coached football here with Coach Szappan and Coach Tithof for many years. I took a few years off when my kids starting playing sports. When I got the opportunity to coach at GB, I jumped at the chance to coach my son Adam! It is one of the highlights of my life for sure.
Along with my wife Angie, we have 4 kids that keep us busy.
Lance is the oldest, and is currently working for Amazon and is in training to repair the robots when they break down.
Adam is the next oldest and is currently a Navy Nuclear Power Training Unit Instructor. He works on the prototype sub teaching sailors how to run the subs. He earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from Kettering University in Flint.
Luke is next on the list. He is our autistic bundle of joy who keeps us young by bringing so much joy to our lives.
Emmalyn rounds out the crew being the only girl. She is currently a senior at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. She is studying Computer Science and was a pitcher on the softball team.
I deal poker at the Owosso/Burton Poker Rooms on weekends as well. So I tend to stay busy!
Hopefully this is a great year!
