From the outset, Cheryl Johnson’s paintings continually explore medium and method. Enamored by the Abstract Expressionists Cheryl loves painting for the pleasure of painting. Her work is eclectic and inspired. She is an artist who derives ideas, style, and taste from a broad and diverse range of sources.
Cheryl's color choices: Cheryl uses spontaneous mark making and an intuitive approach to form and color. She is ever mindful of choosing established patterns and techniques. Relying on her own subconscious drives she carefully varies paint opacity, to achieve luminosity and depth in her abstract works.
On a snow day inspirations come in flakes of color. Faces appear and emotions circle around. The surprise and wonder of waking up and seeing snow. What will the day bring? A day of painting and Creating. Such Joy! I love this feeling. I love waking up wondering what will emerge next. It seems like Mother Nature just doesn’t know what to do with herself this winter. I am glad she brought snow today and I was blessed with time to paint.

SEE NO EVIL
PROJECT BY CHERYL JOHNSON
See No Evil is a watercolor painting of three faces, see, hear, speak. I have always been fond of the tale of the three wise monkeys. Three wise monkeys. ... The three monkeys are Mizaru, covering his eyes, who sees no evil; Kikazaru, covering his ears, who hears no evil; and Iwazaru, covering his mouth, who speaks no evil. This inspired me. Perhaps my next piece will be the fourth axiom. Sometimes there is a fourth monkey depicted, Shizaru, who symbolizes the principle of "do no evil".
