The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) protects the job rights of individuals who voluntarily or involuntarily leave employment positions to undertake military service or certain types of service in the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS). USERRA also prohibits employers from discriminating against past and present members of the uniformed services, and applicants to the uniformed services and covered veterans.
When an employee is called to service they may take an unpaid military leave for up to five years depending on circumstances.
Employees may also request Military Caregiver leave to care for a covered veteran with a serious illness or injury or for a qualifying exigency while the employee's spouse, child, or parent is on covered active duty or has been notified of an impending call or order to covered active duty.
To apply for a military leave at Cherry Creek School District, go to Oracle and request a leave of absence by going to the Me Tab, Time and Absences, Add Absence. Select Military Leave and enter the anticipated dates of absence. Upload written orders or other supporting documentation, if available.
