Cell Phones and Smart Watches
At Heritage Elementary, we work hard to create a focused, safe, and respectful learning environment for all students. In alignment with Cherry Creek Schools' Policy JICJ and common expectations across all elementary schools, student cell phones and personal electronic devices, including smart watches, must be kept in backpacks and remain off during the school day.
Smart watches may only be worn if they are disabled (i.e., not capable of texting, calling, or taking photos) and do not become a distraction to the student or classroom environment. If a smart watch becomes a distraction or is used inappropriately, students may be asked to place the device in their backpack for the remainder of the day.
The ability to take pictures, send messages, or access outside communication during the school day presents safety concerns and interferes with instruction. Because of this, misuse of any device may result in loss of the privilege to have the device at school.
