Welcome Back!!!
Here is what we have started for the year....
Welcome back families! I am Tara Roberts, the 3 – 5 grade art teacher. I’m heading into my 21st year at CHVE and am excited to get started! My lovely counterpart (Mrs. Bennett) and I are very low on some essentials in the art room and are asking you all for help obtaining some of these supplies. These are items we would usually place on a back-to- school list. Art supplies are rising in cost every year and are consumable, and we like to use our school and amazing PTCO budgets for our more expensive and creative art materials.
For the 3 – 5 grade groups I am asking for the following….
1. Washable Crayola Markers – Regular Size
o Classic
o Bold and Bright
o Pastels
2. Pre – Sharpened Pencils
3. Clear Elmers/Amazon Glue
If you are considering donating, please make sure you label them for the art room, so they make it to the right place. ;-)

Snow Plow Contest
The last few years the city of Cherry Hills Village has asked our school, along with St. Mary's and Kent, to paint one of their 3 snowplows blades. This year the 5th grade finalists and winner will be painting the snowplow blade after school once it is delivered. The times will be after school in the parking lot for one week. Please make sure if you enter the contest that you are able to come after school to paint it! We will paint Monday, September 14 – Thursday, September 17.
I am running a contest for the design of the blade. Any 5th grade student interested in designing the image for the plow this year please turn in their ideas on Tuesday, September 1 to Mrs. Roberts. I will choose the top 10 designs and have Mrs. Owens help me choose the winner. We will announce the winner on Friday, September 4 during the morning announcements. The requirements for the design are as follows…
· Our school’s name (CHVE) must be included in the image
· The top portion of the plow blade is covered by a black flap and the very bottom is covered by the blade, so much of your image must be in the middle.
· The design will be in a rectangle shape, so on a standard 8x11 piece of paper draw the image in the center portion of the paper, about 4 or 5 x 11. You can also draw it below the line at the bottom of the paper.
· Choose bright colors that can be seen from a distance.
· Large images show better from a distance as well ☺
· You must be able to help paint the plow!

Empty Bowls Project
This year CHVE third grade students will be participating in the Empty Bowls Project. Every 3rd grade student will create a bowl for this charity event. The Empty Bowls are a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world. We are helping make a difference by donating proceeds to Food Bank of the Rockies and other local food banks. Every $3 dollars raised provides a meal through a food bank.
Last year our third-grade students earned $555.00!
We will sell the bowls here at school during our conference week, November 2 – November 6. The bowls are sold on a first come first serve basis. If you would like to reserve your child’s bowl, please see the form on the back. The bowls are $10 each, cash only please.
