7th/8th Grade Tech Elective

Mrs. Shepperd’s 7th/8th Grade Elective Classes

(The class subjects are subject to change)

1st Quarter:

Digital Media

We will be focusing on our design thinking skills. Learning how design thinking works and applying it to projects throughout the quarter. Students will get to learn more about illustrator on adobe cloud. Depending on the project we might be able to work with photoshop also. Students will work on posters for the school anywhere from an upcoming school event and school info. They will need to present their final projects to a panel and the panel will choose what posters they would like to see in the hallways of CCA!

2nd Quarter:

Coding/Programing

Students will be working on their skills in coding and programming. We will work together on lessons on code.org and Kahn Academy. These two programs will help students really dig deep into different computer languages. Students could build the knowledge to get the basic building blocks of how to make their own program. They will become powerful programmers.

3rd Quarter:

Intro to Computer Science

Students will be introduced computer science algorithms, including searching, sorting, recursion, and graph theory. Learn with a combination of articles, visualizations, quizzes, and coding challenges. Students will be working on Kahn Academy for many of these lessons.

4th Quarter:

Digital Media and Coding

This class is for any student that wants to focus on coding or digital media. There will be a choice and it will be for students who already know some coding and have some idea of how to use Illustrator and in Adobe Cloud. This is because I will do a quick review and the students will hit the ground running with project options. The class work will be similar to Q1 and Q2 but will be at a quicker pace and might be at a high level of thinking.
