Work Share

Chemeketa Work Share Program

As a part of the 20% reduction for Classified and Exempt staff from the week beginning the week of June 14 to August 28, 2020, Chemeketa has chosen to participate in the Oregon Employment Department Work Share program. This program that provides an opportunity for eligible employees to receive unemployment insurance benefits in addition to their pay performed at Chemeketa. Employees on the program receive a portion of what they would receive from a full unemployment insurance benefit claim, equivalent to the percentage of work-time lost. Savings from this program will help offset some impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the college.

While we understand that the implementation date for furloughs is a quick turn-around, our intent is to maximize our employee's ability to take part in the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program. In addition to the regular benefit available through Work Share, an additional $600 per week is available in unemployment benefits through Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation until July 25th.

WORK SHARE UPDATE: Furloughs will be ending effective 07/25 for Classified & Exempt Employees. Please continue to submit your weekly Work Share claim forms through July 27th.

Work Share Oregon Frequently Asked Questions

Qualifying for Workshare

Who determines if I will be eligible to participate in the Work Share Program?
Eligibility for benefits under Work Share is determined solely by the Oregon Employment Department.

How do I know if I qualify?
Some factors that may effect your qualification are:

To qualify for the Work Share program an employee must:

  1. Have their schedule reduced by at least 20%

  2. Been continuously employed at the college for six months full time, or one year part-time

  3. Complete the Work Share application form

  4. Submit documentation to Human Resources on a weekly basis

Employees who fall into the following categories may be excluded from the Work Share Program:

  1. Employees who are currently receiving a PERS retirement benefit

  2. Employees who would not normally be scheduled to work during any given week

  3. Employees who have not been continuously employed at the college for six months full time, or one year part-time.

  4. Employees who are otherwise ineligible for Oregon unemployment insurance benefits

  5. Employees who have a second position or income that provides more than the benefit amount

**Deductible income may reduce or deny a weekly Work Share benefit for employees. This means, if you receive retirement or other income greater that what you would have received from Work Share, you will not qualify for Work Share that week. If this is a monthly amount, it will be prorated and applied to all weeks in the "distribution coverage period".
