USING EASYBIB TO CREATE A WORKS CITED
Citation generators like EasyBib can help you create your Works Cited page. These are excellent tools to help you stay organized and save time. Just remember, they are only tools: it is up to you as the researcher to make sure all citations are as complete and as accurate as possible.
Research Tip
Add sources to your Works Cited as SOON as you decide to use them in your paper. That way you won't get to the end of the process and realize you are missing key information. Additionally, when you use EasyBib, you need to have the source entered into your bibliography BEFORE you can use it in your notes.
Here are a few quick tips for using EasyBib to create CORRECT and COMPLETE citations:
Websites. Although you can "auto-cite" a website by looking up its URL, the EasyBib software often misses key pieces of information, such as author names, article titles, dates of publication, etc. Unfortunately, it's just a computer and (not yet) as smart as you. It is your job to further investigate, as these details often ARE available if you look carefully.
Books. To save time, use the ISBN on the back of the book to look up a citation in EasyBib. This uses the WorldCat library database. This is not only super easy but the data is usually excellent. If you only use a part of a book (such as a single essay in an anthology) then you will then need to go back and modify the citation accordingly.
Databases. Remember, databases are not websites! Do NOT use the Website tab in EasyBib to cite them. Click on the Database tab and then either enter your information manually OR save time and click Copy & Paste to paste in a ready-made citation. Most of our databases provide citations for you, though some may use a format other than MLA. These are very convenient but should still be PROOFREAD carefully as they are also computer generated and may be incorrect or missing information.
