Library Mission Statement

The mission of the Chelsea Public Schools Library program is to ensure student success in an information-driven society by:

  • providing all students with skills to become independent critical readers, thinkers, and ethical users of information.

  • providing resources in a variety of formats.

  • encouraging lifelong reading for pleasure and information

  • collaborating with all others in the school community, and

  • motivating students to reach their full potential.

Vision Statement

The Chelsea Public Schools library program is a key contributor to the Chelsea Public Schools' vision of ensuring that all students achieve at high levels, think critically, and develop their unique potential for success in the 21st century.

Purpose Statement

The purpose of the Chelsea High School Library Media Center Program is to:

  • Help students define information tasks, develop information-seeking strategies and locate, access and evaluate information

  • Help students use information in an ethical manner to synthesize products in a variety of formats

  • Support the curriculum by creating and maintaining print, AV, and digital collections

  • Create and maintain a website to facilitate access to digital materials in school and from home

  • Create and maintain a high-interest print collection of reading materials

  • Promote recreational reading through displays, reader's advisory, and faculty communications

  • Provide a welcoming, supervised space for students to work from early morning until late afternoon

  • Facilitate the use of a variety of equipment throughout the school

  • Provide supervision and guidance for students enrolled in Virtual High School
