Specific entry requirements:Grade 6 in English Language and grade 6 in Religious Studies or another Humanities subject.
What will you study?
Over the course you will study three units:
Philosophy of religion - this includes evaluating different arguments for the existence of God, the nature and validity of religious experience and miracles, the relationship between religion and psychology, the problem of evil and religious responses to this, the rise of atheism, and religious language.
Religion and Ethics - this includes evaluating a variety of different ethical theories and applying these to a range of moral dilemmas, including abortion, voluntary euthanasia and weapons of mass destruction, the nature of religious language, and debates around whether we have free will or we are predetermined.
Study of Christianity - this includes exploring key Christian beliefs about the nature and role of Jesus, understanding different perspectives on the Bible as a source of authority, and considering modern social developments of Christianity such as feminist theology and the impact migration has had on Christianity in the UK.
What Super Curricular opportunities are there linked to this subject?
We have run trips, such as a ‘Question Time’ debate at Westminster Abbey, as well as essay competitions linked to renowned universities.
What can this course lead to?
Students can progress to a wide range of degree courses and careers in a variety of disciplines including law, journalism and business. Students will develop key critical skills, including analysis and evaluation, as well as skills in debate and creating a coherent argument from a variety of viewpoints, all of which are viewed highly by universities and employers.
