Specific entry requirements:Students require a grade 7-7 in GCSE Combined Science Double Award, or a grade 7 in GCSE Biology plus another grade 7 in GCSE Chemistry or Physics.
What will you study?
In Year 12 you will study modules on cell biology, transport systems in animals and plants, biochemistry, nutrition, health, biodiversity and evolution. You will also participate in a series of practical skills classes involving experiments and investigations linked with the modules of study.
In Year 13 you will study modules on communication, homeostasis, photosynthesis, respiration, biotechnology, genetics, ecology and animal/plant responses. You will also further develop your practical skills and conduct more complex experiments and investigations linked with the modules of study.
What Super Curricular opportunities are there linked to this subject?
Year 12’s attend a field trip to Juniper Hall. This is a wonderful opportunity that enriches students' experience and understanding of Biology and enables them to complete part of their practical endorsement.
What can this course lead to?
Through studying Biology at A Level, students will be well prepared for courses in any of the biological, biochemical and biomedical sciences at degree level. In combination with the study of other sciences and mathematics at A Level, students will be well prepared for degree courses in a broad range of scientific disciplines, including medicine, dentistry and veterinary science.
