Welcome
Welcome to 6th Grade Science! The knowledge and skills that students develop in science class will be used throughout their lives, and the ability to observe, analyze, communicate, and reason is invaluable. Every student can learn and we will do everything in our power to make sure each student is successful. Communication between teachers, parents, and students is an essential component to ensuring student success; therefore, please contact your team’s science teacher directly and regularly to provide the most effective educational experience for your child(ren). Thank you in advance for making this academic year a successful and memorable one!

Everyone at Beck is expected to demonstrate our shared core ethical values: Perseverance, Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, and Compassion. We will learn together what this means for each of us in the classroom and throughout the school year.
Student grades are based on formative/summative assessments, lab investigations, projects, and classwork. These will be categorized as either minor (weighted 45%) or major (weighted 55%) assessments. District benchmark assessments will be weighted 5%.
Beck’s reassessment policy is designed to promote a growth mindset. It is our goal for all students to learn and understand the concepts presented and practiced in class. We know that if you work hard, you will be successful. With that in mind, students may reassess on all assessments (below a grade of 75%).
Reassessment Action Plan
The original assessment must be signed by a parent/guardian.
Students will make corrections and seek additional support.
Students will have up to 2 weeks to reassess.
If a student is absent on the due date, any missed work should be turned in when the student returns. The number of days absent is the same as the amount of extra time to make up the work. For example: if absent for one day, the student has one day to make up any missed work. It is the student’s responsibility to find and make up any missed work. If assignments are turned in late, points may be deducted.
As reflected on the district curriculum site, Atlas Rubicon, the 6th Grade science curriculum consists of the following units:

Thermal Energy
Weather, Climate, and Water Cycling
