Applications for the 2025-2026 school year are now available. Deadline is 3/1.
Interviews will be held at the end of March during the school day.
The Student Leadership course is a requirement for all Peer Leaders as it provides time to prepare and plan for work with the 9th graders. The class gives us time during the day that we would need to find elsewhere if we did not have the class. In some cases, it gives us the ability to do more since students are busy and have difficulty finding time outside of the school day due to other commitments.
The class is one semester, with an optional second semester. There is a large focus on group discussion and self-reflection.
We are looking for students who are willing to commit to the Peer Leader program and part of that commitment is signing up for the Student Leadership class. If there is a scheduling conflict, this will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Student Leadership Courses:
Leadership I will provide the opportunity to develop and enhance leadership skills, preparing students to use these skills in the classroom, extracurricular activities or in their future workplace.
Leadership II will provide the space for students to apply the skills developed in Leadership I through project-based initiatives chosen by the students. Here is the space where students can put their ideas into action and make a positive impact on their community. Students in Leadership II will also have the opportunity to share what they have learned with others in the West community and beyond. Students will work independently and in groups developing and actualizing plans that matter to them.
Both Leadership I and Leadership II are available for all students in 9th through 12th grade. Leadership I is a prerequisite for Leadership II. Each course is one semester in length and need not be taken the same year.
If you like to have meaningful discussions and take action on making positive change, Leadership I and II are the courses for you.
