This has been a great year for Chatham’s FRC Robotics team, Artemis 6621. From the highest membership in the team’s history to the first year going to playoffs for both of their competitions, team Artemis has really thrived. All of this has come despite having recently lost all of the team leaders when last year’s seniors graduated and left the team after its first World Championship-run season. According to the team’s mentors, Mr. and Mrs. Fischer, this competitive success is due to the hard work of the team’s captains, Norah Sotherden and Reed Fisch. When asked what contributed to the team’s success this year, Mrs. Fischer said: “Reed […] and Norah’s leadership and particularly Reed’s dedication of hundreds of hours of time and energy.” Everyone seemed to agree that the enormous amounts of time dedicated by every member of the team was the force that drove its success.
Beyond competitive wins, team Artemis has succeeded in building a unique and welcoming environment, turning a team into a family. The flexibility and general openness of the club allows for anyone to join and find their niche where they can fit into the team and serve a unique purpose. According to Mrs. Fischer, the amount of time spent working and building something together is what makes it feel like a family. When asked what made the environment of team Artemis unique, Reed said: “Everyone being able to participate in the activity they want to. It’s really just an open environment; you don't have to pay for anything. If you wanna learn something, we’ll teach you.” Just like a family, everyone in team Artemis has their own unique place. From origami to fundraising, there’s truly something for everyone.

The efforts of Mr. and Mrs. Fischer have been particularly instrumental in all areas of the team’s success. Without Mr. Fischer’s expertise in coding and every part of the building process, it wouldn’t be possible to be nearly as successful, and, according to Reed, “We wouldn’t have a team at all without Mrs. Fischer.” According to Norah, beyond just putting in the work themselves, Mr. and Mrs. Fischer inspire the entirety of the team to work harder and take pride in their accomplishments: “Their level of dedication to making it work is really inspiring to the team,” she states.

Team 6621, Chatham’s Artemis Robotics, is a one-of-a-kind team. The dedication and hard work that starts at the highest levels permeates the entirety of the team and creates a sense of family because of the hard work everyone puts in. And, more than anything else, it’s fun! Being part of team Artemis means meeting new people from all different backgrounds, going to entirely new places, and having new experiences. If any of that sounds appealing to you, head to Mrs. Fischer’s room in the science hallway or talk to any of the more than twenty team members to get involved yourself.
