Terry Bordell was recently hired as the Director of Innovations and Education for the Chatham School District. Although this is Mr. Bordells first time working in the district as the Director of Innovation and Education, it is not his first time working at Chatham. Previously, he was an English teacher at Chatham High School, while also being a teacher leader. Mr. Bordell is very excited to be back working in the district again.
As the Director of Innovation and Education, he works very closely with Mr. Kourt, the district's superintendent. Together, they work to make Chatham the best school for students and the staff. Mr. Bordell’s main responsibilities are to guide and support teachers and enhance student learning. In order to achieve these goals, he spends a lot of his time analyzing data to make decisions that would benefit the students and faculty within the district. Although most of his work is behind the scenes, he is one of the main reasons the school district runs smoothly and efficiently.
There were many reasons that Mr. Bordell was inspired to return to Chatham. He loves the community here and is very happy to be back in it. He said that it was a “rare opportunity” to be offered a job back at a place that he loved so much. Being back, his main goal in his new position is to make the Chatham School experience amazing for every student. He hopes that every Chatham graduate can reflect on a good educational career.
Mr. Bordell thinks that the best part about the school district is the bonds between students and teachers. This makes him happy because he believes that one of the best qualities that a teacher can have is caring about their students. He enjoys getting to see these relationships on a daily basis.
The Director of Innovation and Education is a new career for Mr. Bordell, and he has found a few challenges within this position. He said that the biggest challenge is trying to decide which projects to take on first. Since he is working with all three schools, he is always busy and often finds it difficult to decide which tasks to prioritize. However, Mr. Bordell said that “this is a good challenge” and is happy that he can help all of the buildings.
It has been a few years since Mr. Bordell last worked in the Chatham District. He said that the biggest difference he has noticed has been the new administration and faculty. He is very excited to work with all of the new members of the district. He also said that technology has grown a lot since he was last working at Chatham. He thinks that this is amazing for the faculty and students and it can better their teaching and learning careers.
Terry Bordell has enjoyed his time back at the Chatham Central School District and looks forward to continuing his career here. He enjoys the administration, faculty, students, and the community, and he is very excited to work with everybody. So far, Mr. Bordell is very impressed with everything he has seen at Chatham.
