Public Safety (Grades 9-12): The Public Safety program is for students interested in law enforcement, fire fighting, corrections, EMS, or 9-1-1 dispatch. Students can be certified in CPR/First Aid, Medical First Responder, Emergency Services Dispatcher, Workplace Safety. Students explore careers in the public safety area through hands-on training, field trips, in-class exercises and job shadowing with local area agencies. This course strives to instill integrity and ethics and challenges students to achieve. It is intended to set a good foundation for those looking to follow a career in public safety and gives them insight into those chosen careers. This program is a good complement to the Sheriff’s Department Explorer Program. Students qualify for college credits at select schools.
OFFICER NETTLE MR. BOB
OFFICER NETTLE:
Officer Nettle is a graduate of Houghton Lake schools and has a degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis on Public Safety. He possesses certifications in Law Enforcement, Fire Fighting and as a Paramedic. Over the years, he has developed an extensive work history in multiple areas of Public Safety, however, his last 16 years have been focused working in Richfield Township. CHA has partnered with the Richfield Twp. Department of Public Safety, and as the school resource officer, Officer Nettle also serves as the lead instructor for the CTE program at Charlton Heston Academy. Aside from work, he is an avid horse lover and enjoy spending time with family.
MR. BOB:
Mr. Bob is an EMT/Firefighter for Richfield Twp. Department of Public Safety. He has been with the department for the last 9 years and serves as the Coordinator for the Citizen's Emergency Response Team. Mr. Bob is certified as a Firefighter, an EMT and he is also instructor certified in Basic Life Support by the American Heart Association. Mr. Bob serves as an assistant instructor for the CTE program at Charlton Heston Academy. Aside from work, Mr. Bob enjoys cooking and family activities.
