My name is Karlin Smith and I am 14 years old. I live with both of my parents and I have one younger brother named Harrison. I am a competitive swimmer for MAC and I also love to bake in my free time. I also have one golden retriever, Bogey. I am more of a visual learner. I like having a visual example of what I am supposed to do. It helps me understand in more detail exactly what I am supposed to do and how to do it. I signed up for Engineering this year because Charlotte Latin has an amazing engineering program. I have never taken any engineering classes before, so this year will be a challenge. I am a hard worker so while this year will be a challenge, I am ready. I am most excited about learning news skills and also using the engineering equipment.
Something I am proud that I built was a wooden shoe cubby. Organization is something really important to me so this creation helped to clear up space and clean my room. I had to hammer and drill each wood piece together so that it would be stable and able to store multiple pairs of shoes. I started by making the frame and outside of the cubby, followed by adding the back and inserting the shoe separation. I ran into a problem with the outside frame. I had nailed all of the pieces together backwards so I overcame this problem by carefully taking out the nails without ruining the wood or the nails. I use this everyday and I am proud of myself for this project I have completed.
