During this Unit, We learned how to use a multimeter, and we also learned how circuits, parallel and sequence, function by using snap circuits. The circuits we were tasked to find values for are shown below.
What effect would adding another battery have on these values?
Adding another set of batteries here would increase the voltage, due to adding more power total. There is also a direct relationship between the two values, which means that all values would increase, with the exception of resistance which would stay the same.
Why would you want to use batteries in a series?
Using batteries in a series ensures that if one set of batteries runs out of energy or is unable to provide power for some reason, then the circuit can still run because it is still being powered.
Is there a difference in brightness between bulbs in series and parallel? Explain.
There is a difference between the two, as in series the bulbs have the same brightness, because there is approximately equal resistance, and energy flows to lowest resistance, so it flows through both lamps. In series, the energy is being absorbed more by the first lamp, so the second has less energy to produce light.
Is there a difference with and without there fan blades? Explain.
There is a difference, there is more voltage without blades, and also less current. This was found using a multimeter, which gave us the values to describe this theory. The fan with blades has less resistance, because the fan is resisting more due to air resistance.
Differences when button is pushed
When the button was pushed in the circuit with the lamp, the speed of the fan increased more than when there was not a button pressed. This was due to the lamp drawing current, which caused the decrease in speed for the fan.
Issues
I didn't ecounter too many problems with this project, with the exception of two, which only mounted as minor inconveniences. The primary and first issue encountered was a lack of pieces in each snap circuit kit, and I solved the issue by searching through the extra parts bin. THe other issue was a more prevalent one, when using a multimeter, both Colin Kanofsky and I had the issue of our multimeter not holding on the voltage or current we needed. We used the hold button on the multimeter then in order to fix it, but it required good timing which was difficult, so we just grabbed a different multimeter.
