Hello, Heart Heroes! Are you ready?! Kids Heart Challenge is coming to Buist! We have exciting things planned this year to get us moving, help others and have fun. Get a head start by signing up today and join the NFL PLAY 60 Family Challenge by getting active together as a family for 60 minutes a day! Visit our school page at http://www2.heart.org/goto/BuistAcademy or download the AHA Schools app!
On Friday, March 13th, we will be having a schoolwide event called the Ides of March to Pi. Over the course of the school day, students will engage in olympic style games centered around Literacy and Math. To culminate the event, we would like all students to enjoy a slice of pie.
If you would like to donate a pie, please fill out the form below!
We are looking to host a chess club once a week after school. If any parent or volunteer is interested, please email Mr. Conyers (marvin_conyers@charlestoncountyschools.gov)
The Buist Foundation is currently collecting items for an upcoming school auction and would love your help! If your family has anything you’d be willing to donate: a vacation home stay, tickets to a game or event, a hosted party, a special skill or service, or anything else that would make a fun auction item, we would be so grateful. Every contribution helps make the event a success and directly supports our school. Thank you for considering! If you do have anything you can donate please email Ashley Earl at ashley@simplyearl.com. Buist Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3), so all donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Thank you again!
We are currently looking for a working refrigerator to support the school store and to prepare for running concessions next year.
If any family is upgrading or has a refrigerator in good working condition that they would be willing to donate, it would make a meaningful difference for our students. We simply need a reliable, functioning unit.
Anyone interested can reach out to Ms. Cohen, Mr. Hanks, Mrs. Elliott, Mr. Conyers or Mrs. Nicole Clarke. Thank you so much for considering this request and for always supporting our students and their initiatives.
At Buist Academy, cultural awareness and service are at the heart of our International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Each of our school houses selects an organization or cause to support, encouraging students to take meaningful action within their local and global communities.
Last week, during house meetings, students participated in our annual Philanthro-parties, raising awareness and support for the causes they have chosen to champion. These experiences allow students to learn the power of service, collaboration, and compassion firsthand.
Fostering open-mindedness, empathy, and a commitment to helping others is an essential part of shaping our students into thoughtful global citizens. We are proud of the leadership, generosity, and heart our students continue to demonstrate!
Blarney House is preparing to participate in the March of Dimes — March for Babies walking event this May. Students learned about the organization’s mission, created posters, and enjoyed team-building activities as they begin planning a fundraiser to support the Buist team. More information will be shared soon as the fundraising site launches!
Chaumont House, led by Ms. Stover, partnered with Operation Gratitude to create Care Kits for Soldiers and First Responders. Students assembled supplies and wrote heartfelt letters filled with appreciation and encouragement.
Neuschwanstein House supported the Kids Heart Challenge, raising awareness about heart health. Students rotated through interactive stations where they learned CPR basics, explored how an AED works, measured heart rates, discussed heart-healthy choices, and created kind-heart notes.
Red Fort House prepared 60 treat bags for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Students decorated bags, packed them with goodies, and continued their ongoing service connection after visiting in December to prepare a meal, deliver cards, and collect needed supplies.
Valdivia House focused on spreading kindness throughout the community by partnering with The Archive, a local bookstore and coffee shop in Mount Pleasant. Students decorated coffee sleeves with uplifting messages designed to bring smiles and encouragement to customers.
Warwick House collected clothing donations for children supported by Lowcountry Orphan Relief. Thanks to the generosity of our students and families, many needed items were shared with local children.
White Heron House organized a supply drive that collected more than 750 snacks, small toys, coloring books, and crayons. Students packed 99 Blessing Bags for children served by the Navigation Center, a nonprofit supporting more than 700 unhoused families each year. Ms. Araya-Varga and Ms. Hartsell delivered the donations and even met the center’s mascot, Charlie!
Spring pictures will be taken on March 19, 2026. Only students who order a prepaid package will have their photo taken. Parents, please log on to the link in the ad to order. Tumbleston is sending an email to each family with an access code. Please let Ms. Chandler know if you do not receive the code.
At the request of some 8th grade parents who did not want to
advertise their child's names in their front yards, we have added an option for parents to request a non-personalized yard sign. The price is the same and they will be identical to the other signs in every way except for including a name.
Challenge 11 is up on our Math in Action Site. We also have printed challenges in the front office. Please see the pictures below of students who went to the treasure box for completing the first challenge!!
Math Challenge is free and no sign-up is necessary.
All students 3rd to Grade 6th are invited to participate.
There will be 15 challenges during the 2025-2026 school year beginning on September 12, 2025.
Students who submit 12 challenges or more will be recognized at the end of the school year.
Refer to the Schedule Calendar for dates on when the challenges and their solutions will be available on this webpage.
