The School Counseling program at Jennie Moore Elementary School is based on the American School Counseling Association’s Model and the South Carolina Comprehensive School Counseling & Career Guidance Model. The program includes a variety of services for ALL students and is designed to assist with interests and issues related to the stages of student growth in the areas of academic, career, personal, emotional, and social development. The following services will be offered for the 2023-2024 school year:
Classroom guidance lessons (in-person and remote) with emphasis on personal/social skills, bullying prevention, character education, academic development (study skills), career awareness, and child protection. We see every class in the building at least once a month.
Small group counseling sessions (with parent permission) for students focusing on but not limited to: grief, test taking skills, friendship/social skills, divorce, and emotional regulation. If you feel your child needs assistance in any of these areas please email us.
Individual meetings to help students adjust to school or help with personal issues on an as-needed basis.
Referral assistance to other programs and services in the community.

Hello! My name is Marcene Looper and this is my fifth year at Jennie Moore Elementary School, and I am excited to be one of the school counselors at JME! I look forward to working with you and your child this year, and I will make every effort to see that your child receives as much personal assistance as possible. I am here Monday-Friday. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, running, going to the beach and spending time with my two boys and husband.
My name is Judy Deas and I have been at Jennie Moore Elementary School for over 10 years and I am currently working one day per week - each Wednesday. I have many hobbies which include tennis, reading, and biking. I love working with children and getting to know the parents as well.
Hello, my name is Jessica Gum and I am a Social Worker with the school district. This is my third year with the school district and Jennie Moore Elementary. As a school social worker I conduct groups, see kids individually and can be available to help families access needed resources & supports. I am originally from Chicago and have lived in the Charleston area for 8 years. In my free time I enjoy painting and have just started playing pickleball.
