Project Requirements for PE Teachers 

2023-24 

Districts participating in the Statewide FitnessGram System agreed to the following:  

Implement FitnessGram testing and reporting using the state FitnessGram Web-based  system in all district schools with physical education programs serving grades 2, 5, 8, and  high school  

Physical Education Teachers expectations:  

Complete the FitnessGram 101-Administration Manual course with a minimum score of 80.  The course and test are located within the FitnessGram system (SmartCoach Resources).  

Administer six FitnessGram test items to students enrolled in PE in grades 5, 8, and in the  high school PE course required for graduation. Measure height and weight only in grade 2.  The six test are:  

1. height and weight to calculate BMI/body composition 

2. PACER or mile run to determine aerobic capacity 

3. push up to measure upper body strength and endurance 

4. curl up to measure abdominal strength and endurance 

5. trunk lift to measure trunk extensor strength and flexibility 

6. back-saver sit and reach to measure hamstring flexibility.  

PE teachers enter student FitnessGram test data for grades 5, 8 and the high school PE  course required for graduation, and height and weight only for grade 2. Data should be  entered throughout the year at the time of testing, with all data entered no later than June  8th of each year.  

Participate in evaluation efforts through surveys, brief interviews and/or focus groups  conducted by the University of South Carolina Center for Applied Research and Evaluation.
