Keep your pitch short, sweet, and concise
This will draw reporters in and help you cut through the noise of everyone else trying to get their attention
Remember that your pitch could go public
Include data points, fact-check, and be sure there are no typos in your pitch
Find journalists who have previously written about issues like yours or report about your local area
Do some research online to find out who is the best journalist for your specific campaign, and cater your pitch to them
Reaching out to decision makers

Key tips:
Establish contact with your decision maker
This can be over email, phone, Zoom, or in person- any step you could do to make them aware of your petition
Explain what you want, and the support you have from your petition
Come to your meeting or attach to your email a list of how many people have signed your petition, and explain why this is important to you and everyone who has signed
Be persistent in following up
Everyone has a lot on their plate- including decision makers. Make sure your issue stays top of mind for them and continue following up as needed
Posting content on social media
Social media is everywhere- and you can use that to your advantage! Read this guide to learn what works the best with each social media platform and understand how to best promote your petition.
Key tips:
Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram all have specific algorithms that show posts in different orders- make sure you know how to get your post included in their algorithm
Use hashtags when relevant, tag decision makers when available, and keep your posts short and to the point
If you are hoping to rely less on your personal social media or you need to stay anonymous, use Reddit to post in community channels
There are different Reddit threads for almost every issue you could have, find the Reddit thread that would make the most sense for your petition and share in the thread (be sure not to spam!)
If you are looking to find people in your local area who support your petition, look into posting on NextDoor
Petitions shared on NextDoor are centered around more local issues and are great ways to mobilize your neighborhood

Key tips:
Tell your story
People will be more likely to sign your petition if they feel like they can truly empathize with you. To the extent that you are comfortable, share your personal story in the first paragraph of your petition
Find a compelling image
Use free stock image websites like Pexels or Unsplash to find images that will enhance your petition and draw in an audience
Target your decision maker
Use the "edit" button on your petition to search for decision makers in our database (or add your own) to show potential signers who you are targeting
Finding and identifying influencers
Social media and influencers go hand in hand. Finding an influencer who is willing to promote and share your petition on their own social media in front of their large following is a great way to find new sources of support. Read this guide on finding influencers to help tell your story.
Key tips:
Search hashtags and keywords to find influencers
Look at both follower & like count to ensure that the influencer has an engaged following
Don't discount micro-influencers
Micro-influencers often have less messages to dig through and have a more engaged following
