Issue 24

Dear Parents,

We are at that point in the academic year when the cycle for senior school applications both concludes and begins. We are delighted that our Year 6 children have all received offers from a wide range of excellent schools including Abingdon, Bartholomew, Bloxham, Cokethorpe, Cranford House, Magdalen College, Radley College, St Edward’s Oxford, St Helen & St Katherine, The Dragon, and Tudor Hall. We have had some outstanding achievements, with several students securing Awards and Scholarships. These include Academic Awards, including Maths and English, Art and Drama Scholarships, and an Athletic Development Programme Award.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 students who have fully committed to preparing for and undertaking their entrance examinations. The manner in which the children have supported each other throughout this journey has left us deeply impressed. Their camaraderie has been nothing short of remarkable. They have espoused our Chandlings Values and shown themselves as superb ambassadors for our School.

As this process draws to a close with the offers being accepted we are secure in the knowledge that every child is going on to the best school for the next stage of their education.

In school, the cycle starts anew as we turn our attention towards Year 5. Ms Cook and I have begun meeting with parents to discuss the next steps in their child’s educational journey.

Best wishes

Chandlings Prep Flips for Fun at Annual Pancake Races

Excitement filled the air at Chandlings Prep's annual House Pancake Race! This year, the fun doubled as Years 1 and 2 joined the traditional Year 3-6 competition. Children raced against each other in their house teams, flipping pancakes and sprinting across the finish line.

Even the teachers donned trainers and joined the friendly rivalry, showcasing their competitive spirit. After a close race, Astley house emerged victorious, claiming the title of best pancake racers. Laughter, cheers, and of course, a few flying pancakes, made the event a memorable one for the entire school community.

Movie Magic and Disco Fever!

Chandlings Prep buzzed with excitement as the annual Disco and Movie Night brought laughter, popcorn, and dancing shoes to the school.

Reception and Pre-Prep, donned their pyjamas and snuggled up for a movie marathon. Popcorn in hand, they were captivated by the adventures of Fireman Sam and Paw Patrol (Reception) and the timeless tale of 101 Dalmatians (Year 1 & 2).

Meanwhile, the Main Hall was transformed into a vibrant disco scene. The children showcased their impressive moves, dancing the night away to upbeat music and flashing lights. The energy was contagious, and the odd teacher was also spotted strutting their stuff (!) filling the room with joy and laughter.

A huge thank you to PATCH (Parents and Teachers Association at Chandlings) and all the dedicated parents who helped organise this unforgettable event. Their hard work and support ensured that Chandlings Prep children experienced a night of pure entertainment and fun, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Year 1 & Year 2 Informal Concert

Year 1 and Year 2 children recently took the stage for their Informal Concert, showcasing their musical talents and confidence. Throughout the year, each year group participates in this special event, offering an intimate platform for young performers to share their skills learned in individual lessons, both inside and outside of school.

They performed on a variety of instruments, including the double bass, violin, and piano in front of a supportive audience of family, friends, and staff. For many, this might be their first public performance, an experience that nurtures their confidence.

These Informal Concerts exemplify our commitment to providing students with opportunities to express themselves creatively and cultivate their unique talents.

Year 5 Travels Back in Time at Sulgrave Manor

Year 5 at Chandlings Prep embarked on a captivating journey to Sulgrave Manor, stepping back into the fascinating world of the Tudors. Dressed in authentic attire, the students were transported to a bygone era, ready to engage in a variety of interactive workshops and activities.

Their immersive experience began with a glimpse into Tudor education, contrasting the methods of the past with their own contemporary learning environment. This interactive session sparked curiosity and ignited discussions about the evolution of education over time.

A guided tour of the Manor unveiled the secrets of Tudor life. Students explored the kitchen, dining room, and bedroom, gaining firsthand insights into the daily routines and customs of the era. Their imaginations were further ignited as they visualized the lives of those who once resided within the Manor's historic walls.

The afternoon offered a chance to learn about Tudor games and toys, fostering a playful connection to the historical period. The students actively participated in these traditional activities, experiencing history in a hands-on and engaging way.

This enriching trip aligns perfectly with Chandlings Prep's commitment to "championing innovation" in the learning experience. By bringing history to life through immersive activities and interactive exploration, children foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the past, while simultaneously sparking curiosity and a love for lifelong learning.

Year 3 Explores Roman Life at the Corinium Museum

Year 3 at Chandlings Prep embarked on a captivating journey to the Corinium Museum in Cirencester, stepping back in time to explore the fascinating world of the Romans.

Upon arrival, the children were split into two groups, each embarking on a unique adventure. One group delved into the Lifelong Learning Centre, where a hands-on workshop awaited them. They donned Roman attire, explored ancient games and food, and reveled in interactive activities that brought history to life.

Meanwhile, the other group embarked on a self-guided exploration of the museum's captivating exhibits. With museum staff readily available to answer questions about Roman soldiers, mosaics, and everyday life, the students delved deeper into this intriguing civilization.

After break, the groups switched activities, ensuring everyone had the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the museum's treasures. Working in small teams, they embarked on a scavenger hunt through the diverse collection of artifacts, diligently seeking answers to questions in their workbooks.

The trip proved to be a resounding success igniting a passion for the Roman era. As the students reluctantly departed, one sentiment resonated – a unanimous wish to stay and explore further.

Year 2 at Chandlings Prep Ignites Curiosity with Fiery Topic Launch

Year 2 at Chandlings Prep kicked off their "Fire" topic with a crackling good time in the school's outdoor learning woodland. Huddled around a safely supervised campfire, they learned the essential ingredients for building a fire, igniting their understanding of fire safety and its historical significance.

Their adventure continued with steaming mugs of hot chocolate and a captivating chapter from "The Boy Who Grew Dragons" by Andy Shepherd, further fueling their curiosity and sparking creative thinking. The excitement didn't end there! A thrilling dragon egg hunt through the woodland encouraged exploration and teamwork as they searched for hidden treasures.

Back in the classroom, the fire theme continues. They're exploring the Great Fire of London, writing poetry and drawing their own mythical animal, expressing their newfound knowledge with creative flair. This cross-curricular approach extends to their art lessons, where they'll unleash their creativity by drawing magnificent dragons, seamlessly connecting literary and historical understanding with artistic expression.

Year 2's "Fire" topic launch exemplifies how Chandlings goes beyond traditional learning, fostering a love for exploration, discovery, and creativity in a fun and engaging way. It's a testament to the school's commitment to "championing childhood" through innovative and engaging educational experiences.
