Staff Panto

Oh no you didn't!  Oh yes we did!  The first Wednesday assembly back after the Christmas holidays provided the children of Chandlings Prep with a huge surprise! The staff had secretly been rehearsing a pantomime to perform - Strictly Come Dancing in Pantoland!

The judges, ably played by Ms Cook, Mrs Storey, Mrs Brawn and Mr Marchant (giving his best Craig Rebel-Horrid), watched a plethora of dance routines from the likes of the Christmas Elves, the Panto Princesses and Snow White and her Seven (well, six) Dwarves. Even Captain Hook and his dastardly pirates made an appearance! The proceedings were kept moving by Mrs Belcher (who also wrote the script and directed) and Miss Sharp (as Claudia Twinkletoes and Tess Doily) and a lot of fun was had by all. But who won the trophy, I hear you ask...the Nursery Staff, dressed as Claudia's Minions danced energetically to Pharell Williams' Happy and received 10s across the board!

Class Pairs

Buildling Good Relationships. Class Pairs is a special event which we we hold twice a term, where the older and younger children play together in order to build relationships throughout the school and not just in their year group.  Year 6 pair up with our Nursery children, Year 5 with Reception, Year 4 with Year 1 and Year 3 and Year 2 get together.  They might read to each other, play a game or do another activity. It seems that colouring and drawing was on the agenda with the little ones!

Le Galette

Celebrating La Fête des Rois. On January 6th, also known as Epiphany or Twelfth Night, the French celebrate “la Fête des Rois”. Here, at Chandlings Prep we also enjoyed welcoming the French New Year in a very special way celebrating La Fête des Rois.

Like most French festivals, it has its very own traditional food, in this case a special cake called “la Galette des Rois”.

There is a ceremony to eating the cake.  The youngest child goes under the table where they direct the distribution of the pieces of cake. The cake is eaten — carefully — because there is a fève (or charm—a small china figurine) hidden inside one piece. The lucky person to find the fève becomes King or Queen and gets to wear the paper crown throughout the day.

Launch of Year 1 Space Topic

After receiving an invite on Thursday 12th January, Year 1 arrived at their classroom doors on Friday ready to zoom off to space. The children, dressed as astronauts and aliens, were in for an immersive experience throughout the day.

Google Learning Festival

Our Year 6 Tech Ambassadors attended the Google Learning Festival at Tring School. They rotated around some fun Chromebook-based activities such as creating virtual reality environments to accompany a story, coding three-wheeled robots around an obstacle course and competing in interactive maths quizzes for Google Swag.

Year 2 Fire Topic Launch

The Spring Term began for Year 2 with a warm, cosy time by the fire in the front hall. First Miss Papp lit the fire and talked to the children about how to light fires safely. She asked them to share their knowledge from her Outdoor Learning lessons. Next Miss Papp treated the children to a mug of delicious hot chocolate whilst Mrs Hook read the children the opening chapter of our new book ‘The boy who grew dragons’ by Andy Shepherd. Finally we searched high and low to find hidden dragon eggs, played pin the tail on the dragon and went on to write our own fabulous, fantastic fire poems!
