Year 5 has been learning about reversible and irreversible changes. They discovered that when they mix acids with alkalis, they produce gas and become neutral. This reaction can be used to blow up a balloon and launch a rocket.
We were both proud and delighted to hand over a cheque for £13,512.78 to Helen & Douglas House, our chosen charity for the past 2 years (due to Covid). Each year we choose a new charity to support via a variety of events that take place during the school year.
We raised an incredible £920 on our Jeans for Genes day! Thank you for your support and donations. What a great start to our charity fundraising! The children and staff all enjoyed coming into school in their Jeans to support the charity!
Thank you to all our staff and our Year 3 to Year 6 children for coming to our Whole School Open Day. We had a record number of families attend and the feedback on our Year 6 guides was fantastic. All the children did Chandlings Prep proud and showed what a happy and vibrant school it is.
Year 1 have been out and about in the school grounds searching for items they can use to create their fossils in art. Their topic this term is dinosaurs and this is an example of our cross-curricular syllabus which enables the children to learn about the subject through a variety of lessons.
In Science, Year 2 has been out in the grounds exploring different habitats and learning that habitats are where plants and animals live. They discussed what living things need from their habitats; air, food/water and shelter. The children had fun looking under stones, tree trunks, logs and leaves and were very excited to find various different types of minibeasts.
We are delighted to announce that we made over £350 for MacMillan Cancer Research Thank you to all who contributed. The cakes were all delicious.
Our Outdoor Learning lessons with Miss Papp have been inspired by Queen Elizabeth II and her love of both the natural world and art. What better way to learn about trees than through her silhouette. All the year groups had different tasks relevant to their age group.
As always it's been busy in the sports department with over 32 matches played over the last 2 weeks in Rugby, Netball and Football from U8s to U11s. Congratulations must go to the U8 boys who reached the semi-finals at the Summer Fields football tournament coming top in their group and eventually losing to the hosts in the semis. The U8 girls must also get a mention for playing in their first ever hockey fixture against The Manor, with mixed ability A and B teams. They really got involved in the games and the B team won 5-4!
