Queen Elizabeth II

Death of Queen Elizabeth ||

The Chandlings Prep Community were deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She was an inspiration to us all.  In honour of her passing, we held a special whole school assembly in which we reflected on the Queen's 70 years of being a monarch and all that she had achieved.  A dedicated display in her memory is being created and all the community is invited to write cards of reflection that will be made into a book of remembrance.

Paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth

First Day Back

First day back is always full of nervous excitement. It was wonderful to welcome all our children and staff back to school for the new academic year.  A big welcome to our 59 new pupils and 13 new members of staff and we hope that they are all settling in well.

Chandlings Honey collection

Our beekeepers Mrs Love and Mrs Hanslip were busy over the summer harvesting the Chandlings Prep honey. They used the roller to puncture the wax cappings that cover the honey on each frame which were then put into a spinner. Once spun, the honey collects at the bottom and is then put through a filter before going into the jars.

Year 3 House Ties

When the children move into Year 3 they enter into Prep and find out which house they are in. The excitement of whether they are in Astley, Poltimore or Richardson is palpable! This special occasion is marked as they receive their new house tie and water bottle.

Year 1 Topic launch - Dinosaurs

It was an exciting start to the Year 1 topic of Dinosaurs. All the children were invited on an Explorers Adventure dressed accordingly. They explored the school grounds uncovering fossils and learning interesting facts about the Jurassic Giants.

Year 2 Topic Launch - Up Up and Away

It's all about flying and balloons for Year 2 this term. They had a fantastic start to their topic making parachutes and colouring in pictures of hot air balloons.

Author Ben Miller visit

Wow!  What a treat to have actor, comedian and author, Ben Miller talk to us about his new book 'The Night We Got Stuck in a Story.'  We found out about his favourite books, who inspired him to write and of course who he played in Paddington 2!  Long Furlong Primary School and Cothill House also joined in the fun (as well as Ms Cook!)

Reception's First Outdoor Learning Lesson

Reception began their lesson in the woodland classroom.  They then visited The Reception Oak Tree where they searched for acorns and tried to throw and catch them!

Year 5 Land and Wave

Year 5 have had an action packed 3 days down in beautiful Corfe Castle.   They have really bonded during their paddle boarding, camping, catapult building and kayaking.  It's a great start to their time in Upper Prep.

Year 6 Bunsen Burners

Year 6 children start the academic year using a variety of lab apparatus that they will encounter in their next school, including the eagerly anticipated Bunsen burners. This topic is always a firm favourite for the children, where they learn how to light and use a Bunsen burner safely before earning their Bunsen burner license.

Feel Good Friday - Spider-man Themed

Feel Good Friday is part of our Wellbeing programme and it always gets the children off to a fantastically energetic start enabling them to be ready for some academic work afterwards!  It always has a theme and this week it was Spiderman.

Thank you for looking through our Fort-Knightly News, we hope you enjoyed it!
