Aims of the school
The School’s mission is the relentless pursuit of excellence balanced by self-responsibility, compassion and concern for others.
Chancellor’s is a supportive community, in which staff and students alike are valued and respected. The school is known for its happy and friendly atmosphere. Students are encouraged to develop self-discipline, tolerance and understanding, as well as an awareness of the world around them. The highly qualified and hard-working staff are valued for their expertise and the contribution they make to students’ education, and are committed to ensuring the success of every student.
Our School Motto, ‘Achieve. Enjoy. Excel.’ is central to everything that we do at Chancellor’s. We want to create and nurture a culture that enables all students to have the confidence, skills and eagerness to learn, so that they can be happy and successful, both at school and throughout their lives. We want students to develop an enjoyment of learning and a desire to learn that will stay with them for life. We also want students to develop exemplary beliefs and values, so parents can be proud of not only what their child has achieved, but by the sort of person they have become.
In short, we:
Nurture the growth of creative, lively and enquiring minds through a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, designed to inspire, challenge and motivate students to learn, aspire for excellence and to think critically and independently.
Insist on the highest standards of behaviour, founded on personal responsibility and self- discipline, combined with genuine concern and compassion for others. We value every student as a unique individual and ensure that all relationships are based on mutual respect.
Offer a wide range of high quality extra-curricular activities through which students develop self-esteem, confidence, a sense of team work and competition as well as enjoying cultural and sporting interests for their own growth and enjoyment.
Provide outstanding pastoral care that means all students receive carefully considered advice and guidance at every stage of their school career, responding to their individual needs and choices so that they are ready to embrace life beyond school.
Develop a strong partnership between the family and the school, which is central to providing a solid foundation from which students can flourish.
Provide leadership and entrepreneurial opportunities throughout the school so that students are able to make positive contributions to society, instilling important British values, pride and a wider sense of their responsibility to society.
Maintain an outstanding team of well qualified, dedicated and professional staff, who are committed to professional development and focused on delivering a teaching and learning experience of the highest quality that fosters an ongoing curiosity and desire to learn in students.
Work in regional, national and global partnerships to provide exciting opportunities for members of the school community.
Chancellor’s is based on and is proud of a strong partnership between students, parents/carers, staff and governors. Our vision is to create an outstanding school, which is a national centre of educational excellence, outward facing and focused on continuous improvement.
Our school motto is central to everything we do at Chancellor’s:
We want students to ACHIEVE their full potential - both academically as well as in their extra-curricular activities.
We want students to ENJOY their school life – to feel fulfilled in their work and to have mutually beneficial interactions with other students, staff and the wider Chancellor’s community.
We want our students to EXCEL in every aspect of their education - meeting and often exceeding expectations, so that they are ready for life after school.

Our examination results continue to be strong and we are significantly oversubscribed.
We aim to inspire students to take advantage of the breadth of opportunities that we offer, and explore their interests both inside and outside of the classroom. Our dedicated, hardworking staff is committed to ensuring the success of every individual student.
The school was opened in September 1964 in new buildings built on land which at one time formed part of Gobions, the country home of Sir Thomas More, Henry VIII’s Lord High Chancellor from 1532-1535.
The school stands in impressive and attractive grounds and boasts excellent facilities which we are constantly seeking ways to improve.
The school is dedicated to the well-being of its students and we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
