Ace Monihen's Leads Braves to First Playoff Win vs. Fredonia (2022)

Quarterback Ace Monihen found his way into the record book with his 209-yard (128 rushing, 81 passing), 5-TD performance (3 rushing, 2 passing). Ace broke Derek Ziegenhirt’s record for passing TDs in a season. He also tied Luis Hill’s single-season TDs resp. for record at 25. His performance led the Braves to their first playoff win in school history.

Ethan Burton Goes for 314 to Clinch Playoff Berth vs. Eureka (2022)

Ethan racked up an unbelievable 314 all-purpose yards on 13 touches, 3 rushing TDs, 1 receiving TD, 5 total tackles, 1 TFL, and 1 INT. His performance helped clinch the first home playoff game in school history.

Ethan Burton vs. Humboldt (2022)

Ethan led the Braves to one of the school's biggest victories in school history over #7 Humboldt. His stat line was phenomenal on both sides of the ball. In total, he accumulated 23 total tackles, 2 INTS, 119 all-purpose yards, 1 receiving TD, broke the career receiving yardage record, and had the lead-taking TD in final minutes of game.

Loup Charlier/Holden Ziegler vs. Northern Heights (2022)

A 69-0 win for the Braves resulted in multiple records falling. Foreign Exchange Kicker Loup Charlier hit 9 PATs and had 576 kickoff yards (both records). Sophomore OL Holden Ziegler had 9 pancakes, beating the school record for a single-game by 2.

Jay Johnson/Holden Ziegler Create Defensive Chaos vs. Central Heights (2022)

Jay Johnson broke the record for forced fumbles in a game with 3 and Holden Ziegler tied the record for fumbles recovered in a game with 3. The two spent a majority of the night in the Vikings backfield in route to all-time great defensive performances.

Ethan Burton/Ace Monihen Go Wild vs. West Franklin (2021)

The Braves came out slinging in Pomona and Ethan Burton racked up a school record 180 receiving yards. Ace Monihen had a special night as well as he threw 5 TD passes, tying the school record.

Hadyn Bieling's Final Game vs. Russell (2020)

Bieling's final performance as a Brave did not disappoint. He threw for the second most passing yards in school history at the time (230). Other than this, he threw 4 touchdown passes, ran for 65 yards on just 5 carries, rushed for a touchdown, and had an interception return for a 35-yard touchdown. Unfortunately, the Braves fell in the final minutes of the game.

Hadyn Bieling in CG's First Game on the New Turf vs. Northern Heights (2020)

Bieling put together a memorable performance in what was the first game on the new turf at Legion Stadium. Bieling rushed for 140 yards, passed for 60 yards, and ,most impressively, had 6 total touchdowns. His efforts led to a 48-0 win over the Wildcats.

Brodey King's Receiving Performance vs. Central Heights (2019)

Senior Receiver Brodey King came to play against the Vikings of Central Heights. He caught 5 passes for 135 yards and 3 touchdowns. In one of the finest receiving performances in school history, Brodey also broke the record for longest reception. This was a play that went a total of 88 yards for a touchdown.

Jacob Ziegenhirt's Unique Stat-Line vs. Rossville (2017)

Ziegenhirt started half the game offensively at guard and half at dive back for the Braves. He assisted in making numerous key blocks while also running for just shy of 100 yards and having 15 tackles and a sack defensively.

Treyse King in "A King's Knight" vs. Northern Heights (2016)

The Emporia Gazette ran the headline "A King's Night" in reference to Treyse's breakout performance against the Wildcats. In a weather-shortened game, King ran for 215 yards on just 13 carries. His 4-TD performance led the Braves to a blowout win over Northern Heights. King earned KVOE Player of the Week for his impressive night of football.

Braden Reddick vs. West Franklin (2016)

It was the second year in a row that Reddick made his presence felt against the Falcons of West Franklin. Offensively, Reddick touched the ball 13 times for an impressive 222 yards from scrimmage. His 77 yard run early in the game left no doubt the Braves were on their way to a victory.

Braden Reddick vs. West Franklin (2015)

Council Grove ran for 429 yards in the de facto FHL Championship game for them. Junior wing Braden Reddick accounted for 205 yards rushing out of the Braves' 429 yards. Braden did this while averaging 20.5 yards per carry. Reddick also had the longest rush in school history with a 95-yard run.

Trey Langvardt Leads CG to Rushing Record in Biggest Win of Year vs. Mission Valley (2015)

Trey Langvardt ran for 206 yards in a game that set the Braves up for a chance to win a league title in 2015. Langvardt did this on 24 carries as the Braves' workhorse back for the day. He also had 2 touchdowns, 33 passing yards, 4 tackles, and intercepted an Indian pass in the game. Trey was a big reason for the Braves breaking the single game rushing record that night - with 499 yards on the ground.

Trey Langvardt vs. Osage City (2015)

Trey Langvardt ran for 250 yards in a game against league for Osage City in 2015. Langvardt did this on 24 carries as the Braves' workhorse back for the day. He also had 2 touchdowns, 33 passing yards, 4 tackles, and intercepted an Indian pass in the game.

Tanner Langvardt's All-Around Game vs. Mission Valley (2013)

In a heated contest that saw CG's head coach face off against his former team, Tanner led his team to victory. Langvardt was the fearless leader of the 2013 team and his final performance in the Blue & Gold was special. He had 150 receiving yards, 90 rushing yards, 6 tackles, and a sack in a 28-24 victory that secured a 6-3 season.

Tanner had one of the finest all-around performances ever by a Brave against Chase County in 2013. This included 129 passing yards, 115 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns, 12 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, and 1 forced fumble.

The Braves opened up the 2012 season with an offensive explosion. Junior linebacker Lane Evans tied a school record as he intercepted 3 Railer passes that helped seal the victory over the Railers. Quarterback Tanner Langvardt also had an impressive game with 216 yards of total offense and 4 total touchdowns. Kicker Layton Leydig had the most efficient game by a kicker in school history in the contest, going 8/8 on extra points. Senior running back Cale Buchman had over 100 yards in the ground. Also, Tanner Zimmerman had 3 catches for 95 yards and a touchdown.

Derron Reddick's Playoff Performance vs. Silver Lake (2011)

Reddick ran for the second most all-purpose yards in a game (329) against the #2 Ranked Silver Lake Eagles. Reddick had back-to-back kick return touchdowns, and 3 rushing touchdowns for 5 total touchdowns in the game. This was in the first round of the 3A State Playoffs. The Eagles were the defending State Champions and finished that season with a loss in the 3A State Championship Game. The Braves hung on strong for 3 1/2 quarters before falling to the Silver Lake.

Derron Reddick and Cody Murray vs. Burlington (2011)

In a game that many expected the Braves to lose, Council Grove went off for 408 yards rushing. Reddick had 239 of the yards on 34 carries. The 2-6 Braves upset the district favorite Burlington Wildcats to secure the 5th playoff appearance in school history that night. Reddick finished with 256 yards of offense that night. That game saw Derron break Hill's rushing record with 1 more game left in the season. Teammate Cody Murray also had a dominate game as the Braves' most physical runner. He rushed for 135 yards and made key short yardage gains in one of CG's bigger wins in school history. The combined total of 374 rushing yards between the two players broke the record for the highest 2-player total in school history.

Derron Reddick Earns KVOE Area Athlete of the Week vs. Mission Valley (2011)

Reddick ran for 234 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Mission Valley Vikings. The performance caught the attention of those in the area and earned him KVOE Area Athlete of the Week honors.

Derron Reddick All-Purpose Record vs. Herington (2011)

The "Bud Peterson Game" was played in memory of former Council Grove and then Herington coach, Bud Peterson. Peterson passed away just a week prior to the Council Grove-Herington game. The game saw multiple elite performances. Reddick stood out for CG as he broke a school record for all-purpose yardage. He had a total of 363 yards, but the Braves fell short to the Railers.

Derek Ziegenhirt's Physical Game vs. Osage City (2010)

The Braves played a lethargic game as a team against the rival Indians of Osage City in 2010. Senior QB and Captain Derek Ziegenhirt was able to do enough to lead CG to victory though. He had one of the most efficient games ever by a CG QB, going 12/15 through the air with 180 passing yards. Ziggy also had 3 passing touchdowns, rushing for 61 yards and 2 touchdowns, and had 15 total tackles from the position of inside linebacker.

Brock Frye/Derek Ziegenhirt Break Records vs. Herington (2010)

Frye set an impressive record snagging 4 TD receptions and leading the Braves to a 47-0 beating of rival Herington. Derek Ziegenhirt went for 296 yards of total offense and 5 TD passes - which was also a school record.

Derron Reddick Wins Area Athlete of the Week vs. Chase County (2010)

The Braves faced rival Chase County in week 1 of the 2010 season. Junior RB/WR Derron Reddick had his biggest game to date against the Bulldogs. Reddick ran for 212 yards and 4 touchdowns on only 10 carries in route to being named the KVOE Area Athlete of the Week. Reddick's 21.2 yards per carry was the most yards per carry by a Brave's back with 10 or greater rushes in a single game.

Menear Carries CG to State in the 'Mud Bowl' vs. Mission Valley (2009)

CG had a shot at their first playoff appearance in 17 years going into the final game of district. Mission Valley was a talented opponent and weather conditions were less than ideal. Matt's physical approach as a runner was suited perfectly for the wet and muddy Legion Field. Menear carried the ball for well over 200 yards and was the key factor to team scoring 41 points on the night. The win stands as one of the biggest in school history.

Dusty Maas Can't Be Slowed vs. Lyndon (2008)

Dusty broke multiple school records in the highest scoring game in school history at Council Grove. He had 210 return yards and 3 return touchdowns (both records). He also had 6 total touchdowns for the 2nd most points scored in school history - 36.

Tanner Messer's Opener vs. Wabaunsee (2006)

Messer earned the 2nd high yards per carry in a single game in school history against Northern Heights in 2006. Tanner ripped off multiple long runs - playing a huge part in his special 6 carry for 196 yard game. He had 5 total rushing touchdowns in the game.

Tanner Messer and Justin Fuqua Show Dominance of Split Back Veer vs. Northern Heights (2006)

CG's split back veer in 2006 had a 2-headed monster plus other talented rotators. Messer and Fuqua showed their skills against Northern Heights as they combined for a then school record (between 2 rushers) 360 rushing yards. Fuqua had 23 for 181 and Messer had 19 for 179.

Lance Johnson Breaks Single Game Receiving Record (2003)

Lance Johnson broke multiple single game receiving records in 2003. The Braves fell in the game, but Lance was able to have a 3 catch, 163 yard receiving showcase. At the time, this was the most receiving yards ever in a game by a Brave. His 54.33 yards per reception is a record that still stands today.
