LANNY MILLER - C/O 1988

QB/DB

Lanny was the 2nd Brave to ever receive First Team-All State honors as a defensive back (Nick Allen was the first). Outside of his state honor, he was the first Braves player to be named First Team All-League for 3 seasons in a career. He goes down in Braves history as the best coverage defensive back with little to no debate. His interception record is 13 more than the next Brave. He racked up an astonishing 20 interceptions in his career - one of the most impressive records across all sports at CGHS. Miller had 10 his senior year, 5 his junior year, and 5 his sophomore year. As a defensive leader for the 1987 state-qualifying Braves, he was a part of the best turnover-forcing season in Braves history.

His 1987 season saw him lead 11-man football in interceptions - making him the only Braves player in history to lead a state statistical category on defense. He also is the only Brave to be a 3-year First Team All-League player. He did this in 1985, 1986, and 1987. Miller achieved First Team DB in all of these 3 seasons while also receiving First Team honors at quarterback his senior year.

During the 1987 season, Miller threw for 8 TD passes, which is still tied for 5th most in a season. This number is quite impressive given the style of offense the Braves played at the time.

In the 1987 Season Summary, Coach Joe Buchanan listed the top plays of the year. At #1 was, “Any Lanny Miller interception.”
