DARRELL HARKNESS - WILSEY C/O 1959

DB

Harkness was a talented defensive back for the Wilsey Wildcats and Emporia State Hornets in the late 1950s/early 1960s. While not much information can be found from his high school career, he was highly successful as a player at Emporia State. He became a First Team All-Conference defensive back for the Hornets his senior season. His impact over his lifetime as a Hornet was so great that in 2016 the University named the Harkness family the Hornet Heritage Family of the Year.

Harkness is the only former player to appear in the Wall of Fame as both a player and a coach as he later became the head coach of the Braves. As the Braves head coach he led the team to the first playoff appearance in school history (1974).
