FRANK "CHIEF" HAUCKE - C/O 1912

G/T/FB/HB

Frank “Chief” Haucke. A starting guard/tackle for the 1910 mythical Council Grove State Championship team and captain of the 1911 team that was also quite successful. “Chief” went on to start at fullback and defensively for Kansas State (1912-1914).

Prior to his final year of eligibility, he abruptly transferred to Cornell University in Ithica, New York. Haucke was on the team but did not play his first year at Cornell. They won the National Championship that year. This was also the first year they played on historical Schoellkopf Field. Here is a cool video of the team that season.

In his final year of eligibility (1916), he split time at starting halfback for the Big Red where he was primarily used as a “power” back. The Big Red finished #14 in the nation that year and defeated the Michigan Wolverines. Their only losses came to #10 Harvard and Penn who lost in the Rose Bowl to Oregon. Haucke earned his varsity letter that season. It was later stated in the Council Grove Republican that he was an All-American football player in college while at Cornell.
