Coach Hayes is entering his 5th year at the helm of the Council Grove High School Football program. At Council Grove, Hayes has led the Braves to their first playoff win in school history in 2022. Hayes was a finalist for 2A coach of the year for his efforts a season ago. His 2022 offense broke school records for touchdowns passes and pancake blocks. His 2021 team tied the record for most passing yards in a game against West Franklin. His 2019 team had the 2nd most passing yards, and his 2021 team had the 3rd most passing yards in a season in school history. Currently, Coach Hayes is in the top 10 longest-tenured head coaches in CG football history. Prior to his career at Council Grove, Hayes was the winningest coach in Ellis High School Football history and an assistant high school football coach at Rock Creek and Minnesota. He led the Ellis Railers, as their head coach, to 5-straight District Championships from 2007-2011. As a player, Hayes had an impressive high school football career at McCracken and Westmoreland. Following this, he started at both Highland CC and D2 powerhouse Pittsburg State as a Free Safety and Outside Linebacker.


Other than football, Hayes serves the district as a JH Math Teacher, Assistant High School Track Coach, and Assistant Summer S&C Coach.

Derron Reddick (DC)

Coach Reddick returns for his 5th year as the Defensive Coordinator for the Braves and 6th year overall. Reddick's defense in 2022 ranked in the top 10 of 2A, led all of 2A in tackles for loss, and broke multiple school records. Reddick was a part of 3 of the Braves' winningest seasons of the 2010 decade as a coach in 2014, 2016, and 2017. He is a former Top 11, All-State player for Council Grove and was a member of 2 Playoff teams.  He serves as a Chemistry Teacher, Head Track Coach, Head Summer S&C Coach, Assistant JH Wrestling, and Co-Powerlifting Coach at Council Grove as well. He led the 2022 CGHS Men's track team to the most points scored at a state meet in school history and co-coach the 2022 2A State Champion Braves Powerlifting squad. Other than Council Grove, Reddick has also served as Head Coach at Rural Vista and Assistant Coach at Rossville and Wamego.

Coach Finch returns for his 6th year as the offensive line coach at Council Grove. In 2022, Finch's offensive line broke the school record for pancake blocks in a season. Finch is a former All-State offensive linemen and member of 2 Playoff teams for the Braves. Finch is one of only 3 First Team All-State Linemen in Council Grove history. Along with football duties, Finch serves as a Teacher, Assistant Baseball Coach, and Assistant S&C Coach at Council Grove High School. All 6 of Finch's years as a coach have been at Council Grove.

Jay Simecka (JV DC)

Coach Simecka returns for his 4th year as an assistant coach for the Braves. Simecka is a former collegiate player at Benedictine and Washburn as a fullback/linebacker and also played Semi-Professional football in Topeka. He serves as the Morris County Sheriff in a full-time capacity and brings excellent community leadership to the CG football team. Simecka was also an assistant coach at Hayden High School during their dominant run in the 1990s to the 2000s.
