Background Story
Starting in March of 2020, every Saturday, for twelve weeks, Shawn & Mac aired a new episode of a sci-fi epic, “The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza,” created entirely by the duo from their own homes while sheltering-in-place. The show was viewed live on Instagram by tens of thousands of kids around the world. These episodes were the first draft of the story that would become the first installment of Shawn & Mac’s graphic novel, The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza. Normally, you don’t get to see authors’ first drafts, but these Live Cartoons have been archived on YouTube for your entertainment and edification, and also in case the Smithsonian Institute needs them.
