The Blalack Middle School Band averages around 300 students in grades 6-8 each year. Approximately 130 students start beginner band in homogeneous classes while second and third year students are placed in one of three performing groups – Honor Winds, Symphonic Band and Concert Band. Students also have the opportunity to perform in the Blalack Jazz Band and Blalack Full Orchestra. Students compete in TMEA All-Region Auditions, Solo & Ensemble Contest, UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation and other music festival contests each year. Private lessons are strongly encouraged for all students and supported by a large scholarship system through our Band Booster program.
Blalack Middle School is part of Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD in Carrollton, Texas, a developed suburb north of Dallas. Blalack is a Title 1 school with around 1,000 diverse students on its campus each year. Blalack students have a several fantastic fine arts programs to choose to be a part of incuding band, choir, orchestra, theatre, art and dance. Blalack is on a 7 period day - most 6th grade students get 2 elective choices and 7th and 8th grade students get 3 elective choices. Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD support a healthy Fine Arts curriculum for all students and has been named as one of the “Best Communities for Music Education” for the past 17 years .
