The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction defines Academic and Career Planning or ACP, as a student-driven, adult- supported process in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for post secondary success, obtained through self-exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills.
CESA 7 is here to support your district's implementation of ACP through professional develop and support, providing ACP programming via Virtual Career Spotlights and premade lesson plans, developing Regional and Local Pathways for the NEW North, and creating an ongoing Professional Learning Community of ACP Leaders across our region.
CESA 7 can customize any ACP PD and support to your district needs. Please contact Marci Waldron-Kuhn for a consultation at mkuhn@cesa7.org.
Year Long ACP Team Support:
Coach your ACP team throughout the school year during dates and times of your choice focusing on ACP initiatives developed by the team to meet the needs of your districts ACP Program.
District ACP Assessment and Long-term Planning:
Assess your districts ACP implementation 6-12, to develop an annual plan to ensure ACP programming meeting the needs of all of your stakeholders: students, parents, staff, and community members.
Development of Scope and Sequence:
Review ACP programming in grades 6-12 to ensure ACP components are being delivered in a student driven, adult supported model.
Family Engagement:
Developing partnerships with families is a backbone to ACP programming and can be done through ACP Conferencing as well as modifying traditional school open houses, freshman orientation, and parent teacher conferences into meaningful experiences providing support for students and parents.
From Compliance to Culture:
Staff Buy-In
ACP should not be seen as yet another educational initiative that has been placed on the plates of educators but should be utilized as a tool to bring all of the initiatives together under the lens of best practices in education.
Pathway Development
Local pathway development is necessary to support student opportunities as well as drive programming in the development of department course offerings including dual credits, work based learning opportunities, increase industry recognized credential completion, and implementation of student organizations.
Leveraging Your District Story
School districts across our region are implementing programming that is preparing our students to be career and college ready. Make sure your districts, more importantly, your students are telling their stories beyond the state school report card.
Access and Equity:
Measuring the Success of ACP
Dive into your access and equity data to ensure your ACP programming is meeting the needs of ALL kids, by looking at the demographics of marginalized populations in your dual credit courses, work based learning opportunities, co-curriculars and develop a plan to close the gaps.
