Important Information
December is the last chance for seniors to take the ACT for 4-year college admission; however, seniors who wish to apply EARLY ADMISSION to colleges should complete the ACT by September of their senior year.
The TIR is only offered for the September, December, and February Saturday National ACT dates for the 2024-2025 academic year.
TIR stands for Test Information Release -- for an additional fee paid to ACT, students can purchase their answers, the correct answers, and have access to the test questions, making it possible to learn from mistakes. Even if it is the last time a student believes they will be taking the ACT, students should purchase their TIR and utilize it before taking placement exams at the college they decide to attend. Students want to perform well on their college placement tests to save time and money at college, and the TIR is a great way to help prepare for those college placement tests.
Session 1 (SUMMER)/Session 2 (FALL) of ACT PREP PLUS is best for seniors and more advanced juniors, when available.
Take Sessions 4-A or 4-B (WINTER) SESSIONS of ACT PREP PLUS to prepare for the all-junior March STATE WIDE ACT + Writing, which is required and provided for FREE at all WI Public High Schools.
The SPRING Session of ACT PREP PLUS -- Session 6 -- can help prepare students for the June ACT, which is the best time for juniors to retake the ACT.
Students who decide to take the ACT more than once can potentially make improvements upon their SUPERSCORE, which is the score that ACT now reports to colleges. The SUPERSCORE is calculated by averaging the students' best scores earned after multiple attempts in each subject -- no matter when the best score in that subject was earned -- which means taking the ACT multiple times can be an advantage.
ACT Prep Plus is a program providing students with a distinct competitive edge on the ACT. ACT Prep Plus is offered by CESA 5 and is currently taught at McFarland High School by well trained and officially licensed educational experts. Each class provides tips and strategies to conquer the ACT while focusing on specific core areas that ACT assesses, with two classes devoted to math. During the final class, students experience an entire practice ACT during the final class on a Saturday morning – just like the real thing! Students receive immediate feedback and are then able to learn from their mistakes, giving them time to make additional improvements before taking the official ACT exam.
Students who take the course seriously and follow our recommendations, which includes study and practice time outside of class, significantly improve their ACT scores. After taking the course, students have shared that ACT Prep Plus is “very well organized” and “I feel more confident now and know what to expect on test day.” One senior claimed, “I just retook the ACT again after taking ACT Prep Plus…this is the best score I have ever earned!” Even our advanced placement students feel ACT Prep Plus is extremely beneficial: “ACT Prep Plus is a great refresher and helped re-teach us the skills and math knowledge we have not seen in a while. Our composite scores jumped up 5 points!”
Students and parents agree that ACT Prep Plus is well worth the price, and ACT Prep Plus at MHS costs far less than other college-prep programs (other businesses charge at least $180 for the initial evaluation and up to $90 per hour for tutoring, which can end up costing thousands). We highly recommend that all junior/senior students planning to take/retake the ACT take advantage of ACT Prep Plus at McFarland High School. There is limited space available for each session, so don’t delay – once a session is full, it is closed for enrollment.

When should I take the ACT?
If possible, it is best to take the ACT after completing Algebra 2. If you will not take Algebra 2 until senior year, then it is suggested you take the ACT in June at the end of your junior year.
Do you have to take the prep course?
