Vocabulary

Universal Theme: a message that can relate to all of humanity. Generally good poetry comes at this from different angle, making the readers understand something in a deeper or different way. 

Specific Theme: a message that helps the reader understand a specific event or circumstance in a new way. 

Alliteration: a repetition of letter sounds at the beginning of words

Assonance: a repetition of vowel sounds

Consonance: a repetition of consonant sounds

Sibilance: a repetition of "S" sounds

Metaphor: a direct and strong comaprison of two things

Simile: a comparison of two things using like or as. Generally weaker than a metaphor
