Destination, Relaxation
For our final activity we are landing our time machine on the relaxation island. We will focus on calm artistic abilities that will stimulate relaxation.
Vocabulary
Relaxation: The state of being free from tension and anxiety.
Stimulate: Encourage interest or activity in.
For this week, you will have the choice to use your crayons to make a rainbow scratchboard, use your watercolors to free paint, or listen to a guided meditation for relaxation! You could do it all!
Potential Materials:
A computer/tablet
Crayons
Pieces of white paper
Watercolors
A cup of water
Directions:
Click on the video you want to follow.
For watercolors, use the cup of water, the colors, and a paper to make your own art creations.
For the scratchboard, color the whole white paper with colored crayons. Then cover the entire paper with a black or dark crayon. To end scratch a design of your choice into the paper.

Escaping Emotional Eruptions
Our emotions are like a volcano, they can build up and erupt at any moment. But how can we avoid this from happening?
Vocabulary
Eruption: A sudden outbreak of something.
Emotions: Feeling, state of being.
Volcanos: a mountain or hill, typically conical, having a crater or vent through which lava, rock fragments, hot vapor, and gas are being or have been erupted from the earth's crust.
Today first we will use a volcano image as representation for our emotions (shown below). Next, watch the video “A to Z of coping” to learn 26 way to keep ourselves from “erupting” with emotions, choose your 3 favorite coping strategies. Finally, follow the directions below to make a stress bag for moments when you need to release tension!
Materials:
2 Small Plastic Ziploc Bags
½ of rice (or beans, lentils, etc.) / if you have a provided bag it’s already pre measured!
Directions:
Watch the demonstration video.
Open up one bag and add all the rice in.
Get all the air out of the bag and zip it tight.
Put the bag with rice into a second bag and zip airtight as well.
play with it!

Nuestras emociones son como un volcán, pueden acumularse y entrar en erupción en cualquier momento. Pero, ¿cómo podemos evitar que esto suceda?
Vocabulario
Erupción: un brote repentino de algo.
Emociones: sentimiento, estado de ser.
Volcanes: una montaña o colina, típicamente cónica, que tiene un cráter o respiradero a través del cual la lava, los fragmentos de roca, el vapor caliente y el gas están siendo o han salido de la corteza terrestre.
Hoy primero usaremos una imagen de volcán como representación de nuestras emociones (que se muestra abajo). Luego, mire el video “A a Z de afrontamiento” para aprender 26 maneras de evitar que “estallemos” con emociones, elija sus 3 estrategias de afrontamiento favoritas. Dinosaurs had unique diets just like we do, some ate only plants, meat, or both. What does your human diet look like?
Vocabulary
Herbivore: An animal that feeds on plants.
Carnivore: An animal that feeds on flesh.
Omnivore: An animal or person that eats food of both plant and animal origin.
As humans, we can be any of the 3 types of eaters (Herbivore, carnivore, omnivore) and scientists have made a tool called “my plate” that we can use to balance our special human diet. Before making today's project, play the short video below titled “What kind of eater are you” to learn the difference between the 3 types of eaters. Then play the second video below titled “The 5 fabulous food groups” to learn the 5 food groups that we will use to make our next activity.
Materials:

Directions:
Play the third video titled “Dino Diets Activity Directions” to see me explain the activity.
Grab your paper plate and draw a line straight down and then 2 more across just above and below the middle of the plate. Don’t forget the dairy circle in the back. (see video for reference).
Color the edges of your plate according to the food groups, purple for protein, green for veggies, red for fruit, brown for grains, blue for dairy.
In each food group triangle, pick and draw your 3 favorite foods from that group using crayons.
Share with those around you and share a picture of what you did by texting “Dino Diets” to (971) 701-0164!

Week 2: Personal Petroglyph Project

For our second week, we will take inspiration from historic rock art known as “petroglyphs” to make our own petroglyphs that will help us tell a story on paper!
Vocabulary
Petroglyph: A rock carving, especially a prehistoric one.
Historic: Famous or important in history, or potentially so.
Represent: Have a particular signification; stand for.
Historically petroglyphs are carved into rocks but today we will be creating petroglyphs with only paper and some writing utensils!
Materials:

Pencil/Coloring Utensils
Directions:
Watch the first video below to learn about the history of petroglyphs (a form of cave art).
Look at the images below to see examples of real petroglyphs.
Fold your paper “Hotdog” style and then “Hamburger” style so that you have four squares. (Follow the instructional video if you have questions)
Choose a story that you want to make into a petroglyph tale.
For each square draw a petroglyph that helps tell the story.
As you can see in the picture examples some petroglyphs have color so if you would like add a little bit of color. :)

Learning about historic events from the past as we go back into our classrooms during this extra-careful time can have us worrying a lot. So together, we will get to know each other more by discussing how to control the worry in our life and by learning some tips to help us be extra careful in the classroom.
Vocabulary
Historic: Famous or important in history, or potentially so.
Courage: To be able to do something that scares or worries you.
Illustrate: To show something with pictures or drawings.
For our activity, we are going to be reading a book about worrying called “When Worry Takes Hold” and we will make an art project that draws us with courage. Then we will learn the easy 4 C’s that help us avoid harmful germs.
Materials:

Pencil/Coloring Utensils
Directions:
First, watch the video below to have someone read “When Worry Takes Hold”.
In the book the girl is illustrated to show courage around her, you will be drawing courage around you too.
Using a piece of paper and a pencil, trace the photo below so that you have your own head drawing.
Then, draw in how your face looks when you are not worried about anything. Don’t forget to add hair and detail!
Add a “courage” cloud around your person drawing, this could be one color or multiple.
Show those around you!
Look at the “4 C’s” poster below to learn how to avoid germs when you are around others.
