Dear Parents/Carers,

As we come to the end of another half term, it is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the many fantastic experiences and achievements across the school.

A special mention must go to our amazing Year 6 pupils, who worked incredibly hard last week during their SATs assessments. We are so proud of the effort, focus and resilience they showed throughout the week. Thank you also to all the staff who supported them so diligently; your dedication and encouragement are deeply appreciated.

To celebrate the end of SATs week, Year 6 enjoyed a well-deserved trip to Cassiobury Park. It was a fantastic way to round off a challenging but successful week. Year 6 also took part in the finals of their athletics competition, with the boys' team finishing in 2nd place and the girls' team finishing in 4th place. This is the first time Central Primary has reached the finals, so we are incredibly proud of their achievement.

Year 4 visited Wisley Gardens last week, where they focused on sketching plants and observing a variety of species linked to their art and science learning this half term.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to the team from Serge Hill, who came into school and planted two beautiful flower beds at the front of the school. The children had previously visited the Serge Hill Plant Library, where they explored the plants and helped to design the beds themselves. The finished displays look absolutely wonderful and have already brightened our school environment. A huge thank you to the Serge Hill team for their support and creativity.

From our older pupils to our youngest, well done to our Reception class, Conkers, who performed their class assembly last week. It is always heartwarming to see how much our little ones grow and flourish during their time at Central. This week, the Reception children have also been busy visiting Tesco, where they explored the bakery, fruit and vegetable and seafood sections, learning about where food comes from and the importance of healthy eating.

In addition to this, Year 2 children attended an athletics event this week and represented the school beautifully. Well done, Year 2.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our Central Celebration today. It was a lovely opportunity for us all to come together and celebrate our successes and the amazing, diverse community that we are proud to be part of.

This term, our Key Stage 2 children have been enjoying a fantastic range of class texts that are helping to develop a love of reading, discussion and imagination across the school. Each year group has been exploring exciting stories filled with adventure, important themes and memorable characters.

Year 3 – Aesop’s Fables

Year 3 have been reading a selection of Aesop’s Fables. The children have enjoyed discovering the important morals hidden within each story and discussing what the characters’ choices can teach us about kindness, honesty and perseverance. They have explored traditional tales such as The Lion and the Mouse and The Boy Who Cried Wolf, while developing their prediction, inference and comprehension skills.

Year 4 – The Whale Boy

Year 4 are reading The Whale Boy, a powerful story about friendship, bravery and protecting the natural world. The children have been captivated by the adventures within the story and have enjoyed exploring the emotions and challenges faced by the characters. They have taken part in thoughtful discussions, descriptive writing activities and vocabulary work linked to the text.

Year 5 – Rooftoppers

Year 5 have been immersed in the wonderful world of Rooftoppers. The children have loved following Sophie’s journey across Paris and exploring themes of determination, family and belonging. They have been using the text to inspire rich discussions, creative writing and deeper comprehension activities while developing their understanding of character and setting.

Year 6 – Cogheart

Year 6 are currently reading Cogheart, an exciting mystery adventure filled with mechanical inventions and suspense. The children have thoroughly enjoyed analysing clues, making predictions and exploring the fast-paced plot. The novel has inspired excellent class discussions and encouraged the children to think critically about themes such as friendship, courage and loyalty.

It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm for reading across the school. Thank you for continuing to support reading at home — sharing stories and discussing books together makes a huge difference to children’s confidence and enjoyment of reading.

The NSPCC'S new Keeping Children Safe Online workshop provides parents and carers with information about how to support their child in their online world.

The 40-minute pre-recorded presentation covers topics such as online bullying, mental health, and social media, as well as signposting to resources and organisations for help and support.
