The children have made an excellent start to the Spring term and have returned to school after the Christmas break demonstrating strong curiosity and persistence in their learning.
In Science, the children have begun an exciting new topic on plant growth. They are exploring how seeds develop into mature plants and investigating the importance of water, light and warmth for healthy growth. Through careful observation, measurement and simple comparative tests, the children are developing a deeper understanding of how different conditions influence plant development. They will deepen their understanding of the sequence of the stages in a plant’s life cycle, recognise the importance of healthy growth and understand the impact humans can have on plants in the environment. Each child has planted a sweet pea and will observe how different conditions affect growth, linking their observations to key principles of plant development.
In English, learning has been centred around Willy the Wizard by the acclaimed author Anthony Browne. The children have generated their own ideas, planned their writing carefully and produced imaginative narratives, demonstrating creativity and growing confidence in their storytelling skills.
In Mathematics, the children have been learning about money. They have explored the value of coins and notes, practised making £1 using a range of combinations and developed their skills in calculating the correct change when the amount given exceeds the cost of an item.
In Physical Education, the children will be focusing on invasion games and dance, developing teamwork, coordination and movement skills. You can look forward to discovering more about their PE learning and achievements in an upcoming PE blog.

This year, he has set himself a personal challenge: running the distance from Land’s End to John o’ Groats —around 874 miles — over the course of a year. He’ll be clocking up the miles a little at a time and tracking his progress along the way. He is sharing this as a reminder that small, consistent steps really do add up and to encourage everyone to set their own healthy goal, whatever that might be.
