At the beginning of the school year my artist statement was centered around activism and its evolution throughout American history. As the year progressed, however, my art seemed to capture the complexity in people of color. I wanted to show the beauties and struggles of being a minority and how our struggles can contribute to our beauty. Far too often people of color are left out in mainstream art which is why I decided to focus on representing us in a way that highlights both our hardships and our successes. This year alone, I have grown so much as an artist and have learned how to express my thoughts and beliefs through my work. I am happy to share that with you now.
Love, Adeola
