CELEbrate Culture at NOCO!

This site is dedicated to allowing students and families to access the information we have displayed in our library to recognize diversity and multicultural celebrations! It will be updated each month.

SEPTEMBER

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from September 15th to October 15th. It is to acknowledge the history, culture, and contributions of Americans whose ancestry can be traced to over 20 countries. This includes Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. September is important, as several Latin American countries celebrate their independence from Spain, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile.

October

Ukrainian Heritage Day and Month is celebrated in Canada in September. We wanted the culture to have more recognition because of our large Ukrainian community at NoCo, so we decided to have it share the month of October!

November

Native American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate diverse cultures, traditions, and history of Indigenous or Native American people. It helps educate about the different tribes and to acknowledge their important contributions

January

We are celebrating Russian Heritage in January due to our large community at NoCo

RESOURCES

These are a few websites to help explore various countries and cultures even more!

Why is this important for North Country students and families?

We want everyone to feel welcome, safe, valued and celebrated for who they are. This is an opportunity to learn about the different people and cultures that we have at our school!
