The Transportation Engineering Division of The Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, was instituted in 2016. Since its inception, the Transportation Engineering Division at IITH has been committed to quality education, field-specific research & development. The vision of the specialization is to give the best exposure to aspiring transportation professionals and technocrats to various challenges associated with transportation systems and solutions with the aid of emerging technologies. The Division, with its diverse faculty expertise, offers courses and conducts research in three broad areas: Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, and Pavement Engineering. Besides teaching, the faculty members are involved in consultancy and continuing education programs. Two separate laboratories for Traffic Engineering and Pavement Engineering are functional with advanced equipment to provide the finest laboratory facilities to cater to the needs of the students and researchers. The laboratories are also equipped with the latest software modules for sophisticated analysis, modeling, and design of transportation systems. A continuous effort is going on to procure more advanced instruments and softwares to build state-of-the-art lab facilities. The program affords various outstanding opportunities for well-qualified and motivated students to contribute to pioneering research and gain valuable experience as professional transportation engineers and planners through close collaboration with mainstream industries and research labs.
