(Idea) I've been really rooting for the bears this season with the arrival of our #1 pick Quarterback Caleb Williams. I was hoping I could have a mug to watch when the bears finally make it to the playoffs again, maybe they could finally beat the Packers.
(Process) I Started By making a disc of clay to be the base of the mug. Then I took a sheet of clay and rolled it around the base to make a cup. I added the handle, logo, and letters and then fired it. I made sure to not glaze the letters or logo so I could paint them later.
(Symbolism and iconography) I've been a Bears fan my whole life, born and raised in the Chicago subburbs. We've had a lot of ups and downs throughout my life as Bears fans but the 2024-2025 season is a glimmer of hope for us.
(Artistic growth) I learned how to make more intricate pieces of pottery including things like handles, attached letters, and mixing glaze
(Visual voice) This mug is a voice for all hopeless bears fans to have hope again in our team as I am making it in hopes of being able to drink out of it when I'm celebrating the Bears beating the Packers or Vikings in the playoffs (They're not beating the Lions lol)
(Idea) I thought it would be cool to make a project out of just coils, one that varied in width throughout the neck and looked different than the rest
(Process) I rolled out coils and shaped them to the size I wanted depending on the part of the vase I was working on, I glazed it with blue at the bottom but had it turn green as it goes up
(Symbolism and Iconography) The green and blue contrast can symbolize life on earth, and the polarizing environments of the water and the land
(Artistic growth) I learned how to make careful small adjustments through covering small holes in between the coils, and making sure each coil was the right length, definitely helped my attention to detail
(Visual voice) The uniqueness of this vase can be a voice that inspires people that they can still be beautiful even if they're not like the rest
(Idea) I thought of making a bowl with a deep red color and a sqaure pattern, somewhat like a brick wall
(Process) I used the template on the clay, put it in the molding ring, and glazed it when it was dry
(Symbolism and Iconography) This bowl symbolizes simplicity, even though it's just a small red bowl, there's more to it than that
(Artistic growth) The bowl is fairly uneven around the rim so I definetly learned from that mistake to pay more attention to symmetry
(Visual voice) This one doesn't have much of a voice, I guess the voice would be that sometimes simplicity is key and you don't need to mix all types of colors and shapes to make something appealing.
(Idea) This was the first actual piece of pottery I made, and I wanted to mix the leaf pattern with a green color to represent nature
(Process) I used the bowl making ring to shape my bowl after using the leaf template to texture my clay. After drying I glazed it with green and hints of blue
(Symbolism and Iconography) This bowl symbolizes nature and life with it's green hues and leafy patterns
(Artistic growth) Being the first piece I made, this taught me many of the basics like how to keep your clay soft over the days, and how to make a bowl
(Visual voice) The brownish blue hues mixed in with the green are a voice for the resilience of life to survive even when faced with challenges
(Idea) I wanted to make Blue's clues out of clay, although it doesn't quite look too much like him. I didn't know we were making them magnets, so he doesn't stick to the wall because he's too heavy
(Process) I very simply molded a dog out of clay and painted it blue and white
(Symbolism and Iconography) This symbolizes a TV show Blue's clues that brought a lot of wondeful childhood memories to people my age, its a symbol of life before all the stress and worry
(Artistic growth) It was the first thing I ever made, so I guess the artistic growth was just me learning what clay feels like, how it works, and how to use it
(Visual voice) This is a voice for all grown people who used to love Blue's clues as a kid and may bring a nostalgic feeling to people
