"4 little fish"

Nickole Schmitt "4 Little fish"

9x12, Pencil, colored pencil, pen, markers, 2021

My idea was to make a drawing of my fish that died a week after I got him (which is the black one) and then I decided I wanted to see them all together so I drew all four of them together. I got this idea because I was constantly thinking about my fish and so I wanted to draw him so I could see him every day. So at first I didn’t know how to start this drawing but then I traced the outline of the fish and drew a bunch of different shapes for the rocks (which took forever) but after it was finally done I was so relieved. The meaning for this artwork is to always have my little guy around no matter what. I want everyone to see it as they see it because I see it as holding on to the fish and other people might think its just a dumb picture of fish. The most difficult thing I did on this was trying to get the colors right and making it look as real as possible, I was easily able to finish it looking good with Mrs. Dunlavey's advice on how to make the colors right and how to make the fish look like the picture. If I could change anything about this drawing I don’t think I would because I love how it turned out and I’m just happy all of them are together. I think this drawing is realistic because the fish look so realistic and so do the rocks. I love absolutely everything about this drawing, when I look at the drawing I feel happy.
