ARTIST STATEMENT
(IDEA) First, explain what your idea is. How did you get the idea and how did it evolve? Inspirations from life experiences? Another Artwork?
My Idea was to create a portrait of someone because I wanted to show that I care about them and want them to feel special to me. So I decided to draw a portrait of myself and my cousin, because over the years we got very connected with each other, and we used to play games all day when we were kids, and he's a very funny person in my life, and someone I look up to seeing each holiday event. The picture I drew was from several years ago and looking back just makes me want to go back to those days.
(PROCESS) Explain your process. What tools and techniques did you use?
A technique I did for this was trying to do the harder things first like the faces because after I can start working my way down which turned out to work for me because It turned out great in my opinion even though It's not finished this is just a great mid-term checkpoint to show how my progress is doing and how far and completed it is. My biggest technique was to look at the example drawing with the lines to help me figure out where everything goes before I start to draw it. The only tool I use now is a pencil, but I will use the shading pencil soon.
(SYMBOLISM & ICONOGRAPHY) What does the artwork mean? What do you want your audience to think about? Is there any symbolic imagery in the work?
This artwork means that having a friendship with someone you look up to each day is someone who is a great person because I and my cousin are very close to each other and he's a great cousin, and I'm glad to have him in my life. I want my audience to view this portrait as someone great, and I want them to realize that they need to get closer to their cousins or anyone for explain to help them through tough times, and having someone by your side makes the challenges better.
(ARTISTIC GROWTH) What was most difficult for you? How did you overcome the struggles? What would you change if you started over?
The most difficult thing in this project was the mouth, even though I'm not completed my challenges might change in the future. Drawing the mouth was confusing, for me, because in the example drawing there wasn't anything showing for me to draw which it just made me more confused so my solution was I went back into the original drawing on my phone, and zoomed so I can see what my mistakes were which it helped, and I was able to change it. I won't change anything If I started over I think my technique of drawing the faces first and working your way around would be the best option.
(VISUAL VOICE) What style of art is this? (Realistic, Abstract, Surreal, Non-Objective?). What makes it unique to your own personal style? What do you love about it?
My style of artwork is more realistic in my opinion, because I was going for a more of a realistic look to my artwork and I started to draw with pencil, which soon I will start to draw with a shade pencil, and the finally step's will be to draw with colored pencil to make it look the most realistic to show that it's the true drawing, and that's my whole goal of this project is to make it more realistic.
