About Mrs. Bartlett

Hello! My name is Michelle Bartlett and I am your school social worker!

The majority of my time is spent with students (K-12) providing individual or group counseling services per their Individualized Education Program (IEP). In addition, for all students I provide crisis response services throughout the school building, as needed and I also visit students at their homes to promote school attendance. Lastly, if you and your family need help with something else, perhaps not even relating to academics please consider contacting me. Throughout every school year I assist students and their families in obtaining various needs that are essential to promote success within your unique situation. Together we can complete referrals that will link you and your family to local community agencies, both in Jefferson and Lewis County. Please consider contacting me! All calls are confidential (with the exception of mandated reporting guidelines).

Daily Responsibilities

Counseling Services

The majority of my time is spent with students providing individual or group counseling services per their IEP. Our School Counselors often provide short-term solution focused counseling and while I often work within this framework as well, the students I see typically have other factors within their life that require our time together to become more long term. Each student I see has established social / emotional goals through CSE, that are attained or revised annually. The services I provide are sometimes reimbursed through Medicaid.

Crisis Response

I provide ongoing crisis response services throughout the school building, as needed. At school this can happen in a classroom, the hallways, or perhaps in the office. I have also visited children at their homes to encourage school attendance for those who have challenges with chronic absenteeism.

Community Programs

Linking and referring students to community programming is something I find strength with. Prior to my employment at Copenhagen Central School I worked within various community programming from Case Management to Outpatient Mental Health treatment in Jefferson County and believe that this helps me navigate these services and their benefits (from food and nutrition needs to mental health treatment). By breaking the stigma associated with these resources our students and families are able to enroll in services to improve their individual and family wellness as well as success at school.

Special Responsibilities

Elementary School:

SEL Team

Just as teachers regularly gather information on a child's academic skills, it is important to gather information on a child's social and emotional skills. Our SEL Team  utilizes the strength based tools: the Teacher-Child Rating Scale (T-CRS) and the Child-Rating Scale (CRS) to gather information on all PreK-5 students twice per year (Fall & Spring). This information allows our team to offer students classroom interventions such as establishing a School l- Home Note System, Behavior Sheets, Self-Monitoring Systems, Break Cards and/or other school based interventions such as enrollment in a Focus Group (or more commonly known as Lunch Bunch), Primary Project, Check In - Check Out, or perhaps either individual (in-school or community) counseling services

As always participation in any of the offered interventions is completely voluntary.

Elementary School:

Primary Project Supervisor

Primary Project is an evidence-based program offered at Copenhagen Central School and designed to enhance school related competencies and reduce social, emotional, and school adjustment difficulties in children pre-kindergarten through third grade. Just as teachers regularly gather information on a child’s academic skills, it is important to gather information on how a child is adjusting to school. Children are selected for Primary Project through a process including screening evaluations completed by teachers, observations within the classroom(s), and meetings with the SEL Team.

Children who are chosen to participate in Primary Project will meet with a highly trained and specially selected adult, called a child associate. Our Child Associate, Mr. Logan Spaulding will meet with your child for thirty minutes, once per week, for 15 weeks. Through the use of play based strategies, our child associate will build a supportive relationship with your child. Through regular participation over the 15 weeks your child will become more adjusted to school, gain confidence, improve social skills, and feel more a part of the school community.

Participation in Primary Project is completely voluntary.

Middle School:

Middle School Advisory Team

Established in the Fall of 2018, Middle School Advisory  (MSA) is a small, grade-level group in which each student has automatic membership. All middle school students meet with their faculty advisor and fellow advisees 1 x per month. During MSA students engage in discussions and activities relating to one of the 24 character strengths provided through Positivity Project. Throughout  their time in middle school, each of our students will have participated in a  lesson on each of the 24 Character Strengths.

MSA allows students the opportunity to reflect on their personal strengths and areas for growth as it relates to their roles as individuals, as learners, and as members of our local community. The ultimate goal is for students to understand themselves better in each of these roles. Throughout MSA students are encouraged to celebrate accomplishments within and outside of school and examine the factors that enhance and interfere with their learning.

MSA Character Strength Calendar:

6th Grade

Curiosity, Integrity, Perspective, Kindness, Prudence, Love, Love of Learning, & Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence

7th Grade

Teamwork, Forgiveness, Bravery, Self-Control, Perseverance,  Enthusiasm, Humor, & Purpose

8th Grade

Open-Mindedness, Creativity, Gratitude, Optimism, Humility, Social Intelligence, Fairness, & Leadership

Middle & High School:

Knight Time Team

Knight Time was established in  the Fall of 2021 . Knight Time is 10 Minutes immediately following lunch for all middle school and high school students. Although brief , this time offers students a daily opportunity for academic growth, social/emotional wellness, and a healthy physical break.  As students regularly practice daily enrichment skills to improve short term success, they will be building healthy long term habits that will become a part of their daily life, which will continue to benefit each of them after they leave CCS.

Backpack Program Coordinator

History:

The Backpack Program was established  in Fall of 2011 by the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) with a grant from The Prat Northam Foundation. The program continues to be supported through donations from our local community,  including but not limited to: local businesses, community residents, and CCS staff , students and their families.  Over the years the program has been run by many different groups. The backpacks are currently being packed and delivered by the Student Council.

Why  & How it Works:

We understand that the current times are financially stressful for many families. The backpack program provides children in our district with nutritious food each weekend and on school vacations to help  families make their food stretch farther during the month. Every Friday, "backpacks" are filled with nutritious non-perishable foods that the participating students take home to their families. All items will be sent home in a durable paper bag, rather than the traditional backpacks. These bags do not need to be returned!

Enrollment & Eligibility:

During the 2020 - 2021 School Year the Backpack Program served 13 families; 26 students.  To enroll please complete the application below and return to school. Enrollment is open throughout the entire school year. ALL families qualify! All we ask is that you complete a Free/Reduced Lunch Application. You do NOT have to qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch in order to receive a "backpack". The Backpack Program is a CONFIDENTIAL program.

Donations:

The Backpack Program is always accepting donations! We will gladly accept any cash, check (made out to CCS Backpack Program), or food donations. Donations can be dropped off to Mrs. Gaines in the Attendance Office.

The program always accepts any non-perishable, unexpired foods such as: Instant Oatmeal (Packets), Cereal (boxes), Granola Bars & Pop Tarts, Pancake Mix, Applesauce, Peanut Butter (plastic jars), Jelly (plastic jars), Nutella, Canned Fruit, Canned Soup (Tomato, Chicken Noodle, & Chili) Ramen Noodles, Tuna fish, Canned Chicken, Canned Vegetables, Mashed Potato (box or bag), Macaroni and Cheese, Pasta, Canned Spaghetti Sauce, Rice (boxes), Bagged Entrees (Rice-A-Roni, Pasta Sides, etc), Canned Entrees (Spaghetti-O's, Ravioli, etc), Snack Items (Graham Crackers, Peanut Butter Crackers, Popcorn, Fruit Snacks, Pudding Cups, & Fruit Cups etc).
