Program Highlights
Calhoun High School is one of only 12 schools in Georgia to receive the SME Prime Manufacturing Grant. This grant is valued at over $300,000, and is providing equipment and professional learning to enhance the program to better meet industry needs. This grant has allowed us to form stronger partnerships with our business and post-secondary partners through advisory committee meetings, guest speakers, facility tours, and work-based learning placements. We are excited to see our program grow through this process!
Our program is designed to prepare students for careers in engineering and manufacturing. We have a large lab space with equipment such as 3D printers, CNC router and mill, universal robot, water jet, and laser engraver.
Students in the engineering program are eligible to take industry-recognized credentials such as Snap-On Precision Measurement tools. We are looking to expand these credentials soon!
Our industry partners are essential for our program. They serve several roles including curriculum review, equipment training, guest speakers, tours, work-based learning placements, and dual enrollment. This is a true partnership in which both the engineering program and the industry partners benefit.
Safety is a top priority in the Engineering Program. Students must have a lab safety contract signed by a parent on file before being able to work in the lab. In addition, students must pass a general safety test with 100% before working in the lab. Tool-specific tests must be passed with a 100% before working with any tools.
