Mr. Tyler Guthrie

This is Tyler Guthrie's third year as a director of bands at Holmes Middle School. His responsibilities include directing the Symphonic Band and Jazz Band. Mr. Guthrie also restarted the Hornets Pep Band last year and is excited to continue this ensemble for future years. In addition to his responsibilities at HMS, Mr. Guthrie will also be directing the Beginning Band students at Frost, Twain, and Whitman Elementary Schools.

Mr. Guthrie studied Music Education at Western Illinois University and graduated in December of 2018. During his time at WIU he played with many of the ensembles that the university offers including the Jazz Band, Jazz Studio Orchestra, Orchestra, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Trombone Studio, and Pep Band. He was also a member of the Marching Leathernecks at WIU where he eventually earned the role of being a Drum Major during his senior year. He is also currently taking courses through VanderCook College of Music.

Mr. Guthrie also enjoys playing with musicians around the Chicago Area outside of school day. He is currently a member of the Palatine Concert Band and has previously performed with the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra. He is also an Alumni of the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps where he spent an entire summer with the organization while traveling across the country to rehearse and perform for thousands of audience members.
