Terry Sanford High School Counseling Department Vision Statement:

All students from Terry Sanford High School will graduate college and career ready while able to meet the challenges and high expectations of a diverse and global society. Through the school counseling comprehensive program, all students are able to identify individual goals and the characteristics needed to promote a positive difference in their community.

Terry Sanford High School Counseling Department Mission Statement:

The mission of the School Counseling Department is to empower all students to reach their fullest potential by providing a comprehensive school counseling program to facilitate their academic, career, and social-emotional development. Students will become independent and critical thinkers through their participation in research-based, data-driven interventions. As professional school advocates, school counselors facilitate services to ensure all students have equal access and opportunity to gain the attitudes, knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in a dynamic world.

The members of the Terry Sanford High School Counseling Department believe that an exemplary school counseling program should:

  1. Be an integral part of the total school program.
  2. Equip students with the skills necessary for them to achieve their career goals.
  3. Utilize a team approach to eliminate barriers in school achievement.
  4. Conduct activities that contribute to the development of a positive school climate.

  6. Help students develop a healthy self-concept and an acceptance of individual differences.
  7. Link programs with opportunities for students outside of the school.
  8. Include the participation of teachers because of their direct involvement with students on a daily basis.
